One thing I don't understand about the 24 bins is why he didn't position them near a rail line and load his own cars. Then when finished he could charged a fee to load others.

He has built more storage himself than the graincos collectively around moose jaw.

Not sure why he needs to deal with graincos.

1 mile west he could have lined then up off Simpson seeds spur. Maybe cut a working deal with them.

I agree with that observation. But it needs it's own siding. Pulse plants need 45 shipping weeks to make a profit.

I think in the future we will see it, more and more where private individuals build their own loading sites with a greenfield location.

Expensive, but there will be a payback.

Funny but we had those facilities in the form of wooden elevators. They just needed an upgrade.

Any along a mainline or remaining branchline were destroyed by the graincos.

Now farmers will build them individually or a few farmers will cooperatively do it.Again.

It's going to take leadership to ensure producer cars points get serviced. Where is that coming from?

Just wait until a few of these go up and graincos start whispering/paper bagging politicians.

Actually called about one site and the government said it wasn't a registered producer car site. So I asked if it could be but then I had to ask the railway. They said it doesn't fit into there plan of large car points.


I figure any siding the railways can park cars at for their convenience should be fair game.

Good points.

Consider if the RR had a service requirement for producer cars... and growers could count on good service at such points! the 10 percent holdback for the 'RR performance bond' would truly change grain logistics in our country! If all grain shippers were in the pool... no one could be singled out for special treatment!

How this would change things on the western Canadian Prairie!!!

Bucket, we know the big boys don't want to shit around shuttling afew cars here and there. Then let some viable shortline companies do the light lifting.

Rail line abondonment and elevator consolidation didn't deliver the desired results..... except for the RR's and GrainCos. Next time someone tells us something will be good for us, let's not be so gullible.

Now is our time to make this right. A 10 percent performance Bond... subtracted from each RR invoice... sent to a bond pool... and only released when Shippers transport service properly executed by the RR.

Did you drive on any of moose jaw streets?

They have a major infrastructure deficit in that city.

It will be province wide on the highways soon as well.

Wonder when some of these provincial and federal officials get a grip on it and what caused it?

Although I do have to say I have run across many similiar ones throughout the province. Still no excuse.

Yes... if a 10 percent freight holdback were pooled... and performance criteria with Railways required to pay Demurrage and damages for lack of timely service... Nabers and many others... would operate effectively and provide a dependable product in local and export markets...plus many more growers would be shipping more producer cars to port and the US... if producer cars had the same performance assurances and damages for rail nonperformance..
