I wonder if marketers are selling grain when they have no way of supplying it in a timely manor? We all no they are buying with no way or will of accepting delivery in a timely manor.

What does this do for Canadian grain as a dependable commodity for the domestic and export market?

I think the marketers have a big part to blame for this whole mess.

The pool can be variable... just like our Rate Cap...

If performance is not forthcoming, (unfilled car orders being the measure)... then a 15 percent levy will be charged... just like is done now if the RR overcharge on the Rail Cap on Grain shipments from western Canada. This 15 percent is returned to the Shipper whom is hurt by the lack of Freight Service. PRODUCER CARS INCLUDED.

The goal of this 'Freight Assurance Pool' is proper service... when this is being met... we will entertaiin increasing the percent return on the Grain revenue cap now in place.

100 percent service provided=... Cap open... as arbitrated by the 'Freight Pool Arbitation Board'.

THIS 'FREIGHT POOL' Can apply to as many types of shippers... of products other than western grain; as well. We will not discriminate against any product the railway Alliance provides service to... if these shippers so choose.

Shippers will automatically submit 10 percent of Railway freight billings... to the 'Freight Pool service Bond'.

Obviously I know nothing about this.

            Just from reading your posts

Railways have been rubbish for years, waste of time ringing them
MP / politicians are the same otherwise railways would be fixed.
Grain companies now I bet they would be worth a call not to moan and grown but see if together you could work a better logistical system.

I can not imagine CWB left all the ducks in a line.

Moving grain in the UK is a nightmare having the right number of trucks in the right place at the right time

Canada's distances weather etc. and removal of the logistical experience of the CWB was bound to create unforeseen problems.

The phone call I would be making would be to the people who had bought my grain to see how I could help improve their logistics.

They like you want the grain at its destination so you both get paid.

Did mean to say Grain co here do most of the logistics and even here some are much better than others.
It is a fact I consider when making a sale.

Also I believe they also take into account the attitude/helpfulness of the seller regarding loading times movement dates etc. when making a purchase.

                Ianben,

"SPRING 2014. We are all fully ... of service , CP Rail blamed the weather but the truth is Mr. Hunter. Harrison, CEO for CP Rail, since mid-2012 has laid off 4550 people, and removed 400 locomotives and 11,000 railcars off the rails.simpsonseeds.com/wp-co…/…/2014/.../SSI_Spring2014_News_Web.p... "

Please note ... shippers dare not rial the great hunter!!!

                Sooo...

We are not all that different here... Simpson is a Shipper and a grain farmer.

I am meeting with Pulse Canada CEO Gord Bacon over the next couple of days... at a Strategic Dev. session of Alberta Pulse Growers by Calgary.

We will make the most of this time to go through these issues and put together a plan of Action.

                Cheers!

                  Tom

You mean you won't be talking about research and development of fixing root rots in pulses?

You mean the transportation file is as important as (if not more) than fancy varieties or R&D.

You mean people are starting to realize that increased production requires more capacity in infrastructure?

There is a guy at the CGC that recognized it 20 years ago. He has ties to this political party that is in power.

Doesn't seem like many people that got our vote have done much to correct the problem.

You have obviously been orphaned by a organization that has ritz's ear because we don't see the organization's executive on here defending your position.

                  I wish you the best.

                    Bucket,

No need to defend my position... it speaks for itself!

Pulse Canada has truly been an innovator and done much hard work with grain transportation logistics with a specialist another great asset for growers; COO Greg Cherewyk (204) 925 445

Again looking at things I have learnt.

You will have to pay your own transport cost without the CWB. location location location.

I farm ten miles from Liverpool, 2 flour mills 1 oilseed crusher , more feed mills than I can count within 25 miles, Cerastar 1million tonne feed wheat sweetner manufacturing plant 20 miles away in Manchester, oats have two outlets porridge at Morning foods in Crewe, dog food in Ormskirk both 20miles. Malting Barley is about 90 miles to malster but we have managed to do a local deal with a brewer who want brewed and grown in Lancashire(local) on his label.

All of this I have taken the trouble to learn an realise what is acheivable and which crop the market wants.
I have discovered the advantage my location gives me. Even in the UK this amounts to a premium of about £10/tonne compared to someone more distant.

You may get more trains but some way you will have to pay for them individually.
Are you willing to pay more for a better service.

Dont forget you have to compete with my location for delivery into Liverpool so it must come from your grain check.

Except we still have problems that occurred 20 years ago.

I enjoy reading guys bios about the hard work they have done on our behalf only to end up with the same problems and no solutions a decade later.

The railways created a trucking industry. Sent their freight to the public highway system for all taxpayers to pay for that is unaffordable.

The railways reduced their fleets, called themselves more efficient and sent the money to shareholders like bill Gates (who could care less about highways in saskatchewan) while holding the economy of canada hostage to this type of moronic logic.

Meanwhile all these people that have this transportation experience watched it happen are getting called brilliant with their expertise. They have been spending check off dollars on transportation - where are the results of that investment?

Sorry I expect these guys are well versed in transportation but where or when is it going to come to the point that they realize that nothing short of nationalizing the railbeds and having open running rights is going solve these problems?

I don't like the idea of more government employees but create a rail transport coordinator. Know where the trains are and where they have to go and ensure they do it safely. Airlines do it every day. And they don't have two rails to keep them on track.

The current system is not working.

                          Ianben,

Good points. The sad point... is that we pay more than enough now... and should be getting better transport services than are now provided.

Therefore... when there is a breakdown, and the utility essential service fails repeatedly... further action must be enforced. A 'Performance Bond" is not unusual now in much of Industry service provided in other services. The RR are now given a failing grade by all Shippers... so the appropriate response is a 'Performance Bond'.
