I like the idea, nationalizing the tracks is a far cry than nationalizing existing companies, logistics may be a nightmare.

rare-earth, if you are talking of a new railroad, I could not argue with anything you are saying. But it will cost billions and we know this government has such a narrow minded focus of a balanced budget and free enterprise it is unable to even consider the economic benefit of a new public track open to all shippers and rail companies!

        Rare earth

Isn't that what statscan is for?

To determine the level of growth and relate that info so companies like cp can build to the expected growth?

And yes railways can be forced to move product. It happened last spring when the STB got the railways to move fertilizer in the states. Notice the shortage concerns disappeared last spring when that happened.

          On the right track Klaus.
Open running rights. Run the system like an airport with a Control tower. Many companies paying to use the system and in fast ruckus. Objective to land the right product at the right time with arriving ships as efficient as possible. Like Tom said. Don't push trains to port. Pull them their with ships.

Not commie at all. The companies are publicly traded. Only one capable of buying boh rails would be the govt On account of competition rules. Were not talking stealing here right???????.
Efficiency is In question. Sometimes govt run utilities roads etc are more efficient than public. In fact publicly traded companies are the most inefficient of companies out there. Private can beat easily. No public company can farm as efficient as us farmers. Just saying. Nothing wrong with klause's ideas. Put enough heads and ideas together and anything can be done if there is a will. If there is a will there s a way.

One thing the feds got working for them is low interest rates. Tax on diesel will pay for the rails. Sell off cars and engines with richie bros to highest bidder meanwhile keeping things moving yikes that is the hard part no hick ups Needed Certain percentage held back to provide guarantee service to the little guys. Union will have to adapt should remain intact. Of course all e need is someone to show it is truely better for everyone.

Strange we don't have private roads or airports.

Yes Will. If flying we buy a ticket. Pay aiport tax to pay for airport. etc etc Pay pay. It works well. What if we had two air lines West Jet and Air Canada for instance and they had to have their own airports and no sharing. Yep enough said.

Of course cncpr have quite the rail system extending into the usa. Very extensive. Sellable???? To offset cost. Of course we would need open running rights all over usa. Do we have that today???? What are usa rail rules today????
