There are 205,000 farmers in Canada. If each farmer bought 10K worth of shares in CP in one day, planned it, and then swamped the shareholders meeting, there could be a lot of changes made. A wide view.... ;D Parsley

Exactly Pars. Also, we could own them in TFSAs.

Expropriation is very dangerous, klaus. And you didn't even mention any compensation for expropriation. Wow. The precedent even puts your farm up for grabs. parsley

All of a sudden, farmers own $2B in CP shares. And farmers could proceed in so many different directions with that kind of cash. Choices. It's powerful. I haven't been on for awhile, and here I read about expropriation. Wow. parsley.

                Parsley,

with a performance bond out of freight revenues from grain movements... of 10 percent... Demurrage and damages for non-performance of rail carriers... there is no need for any nationalization nor administrative regulatory grid loc.

Industry has performance bonds as a part of many contracts... RR have had such an ironclad grip on shippers... it would be near impossible to implement without CTA or CGC legislation.

Remember this: there are only 205,000 farmers in Canada. Are there 35 million green voters who could be convinced to expropriate your land? be careful what you scheme. Your best path is to always always choose a path where there is choice for you. You can't argue to have your choice if you refuse to give it to others. Parsley

When you consider most train accidents are caused by track problems. I don't think you would want to own the track at all. I can't imagine what the liabilities would be for that.

                      Pars,

The government of MB expropriated land whenever and wherever they want to... and provide you with assessment value not market value.

Sask did the same thing to my in laws to build highway 16.

My premise is the Railways didn't hold up their end of the agreement thus a breach of contract thus they have no right to the Rail lines.

Most rail accidents are from bad uundercarriage in Canada... and if the tracks were independently maintained they would be in better shape.

Klaus, the government of MB doesn't have 150 2000$ suit wearing professional lobbyists who just happen to also be experienced well paid lawyers to bargain with like the RR does.

They would keep that in court FoReVeR.

Its why the CTA doesn't apply. Why fines don't apply. Why parliament doesn't matter. Why farm groups and CRS are irrelevant.

Love the shares idea. Clean! (and legal without lawyers)

Yes, well, Elizabeth May will use your precedent to claim that your lack of environmental responsibility on your land and thus causing harm to habitat, is reason enough to expropriate what you worked to legally own.

I expect people who make an agreement to keep an agreement. You can always sue for damages. But expropriation must never become the default option in a free society. I'd appreciate if you read that last sentence twice, klaus.

I realize it's an old-fashioned concept to those who don't value both the financial and the moral weight of an agreement. Parsley
