    United States Grain Shipping

With all the discussion about Canada's rail shipping why does the US system not get more attention?
We hear of higher prices and growers trucking across border so logical reason is whether, from grower standpoint, it is better.
Can understand Canadian nationalism and anti-Americanism in own family forebears, going all the way back to United empire loyalists.
Time to get past animosity and ask whether a more market driven system where shippers pay more directly for service they want would be better for us.

A year ago when govt shipping order was imposed, US Wheat Associates newsletter said it was not the answer so long as revenue cap went unchanged. Would agree.
Again, if US system gets growers a higher price, what is so bad about it?

    Then let BNSF into canada.

We have not got one gain out of all the promises from branchline rationalization, reducing points or removing the crow.

You are buying into the same bullshit as the last efforts.

More competition coupled with more track and car capacity might solve it.

That's not on the table nor even contemplated.

And don't forget the US has the STB with some teeth.

Dont forget Bill Gates is a principal in CN... and has close ties with Warren Buffet the owner of BNSF. I understand the Gates Foundation owns the CN shares... and Warren Buffet has bought and financed a good chunk of investments in the Gates Foundation.

        Simple Self interest.

BNSF... had it the power/trains and will... could be inter switching and pulling grain cars every day of the week... as CN and CP have a terrible service record over the past 4 months going south. Why compete against your own interests and investments???

Increasing the rate cap or removing would not be positive for Western Canadadian farmers.

Let's introduce open running rights for all our railways.

Get our military involved with logistics planning of shipments and track maintenance. They wouldn't be reporting to shareholders but to us taxpayers instead.

The army corps in the USA put a lot of manpower and $ into their Mississippi River system without being classified as a farm subsidy.

          Keep pushing for oil pipelines.
