charlie, what you consider the middle class, are still obscenely wealthy compared to the ones we do not sell food to. The other 3 or so billion people.

Someone who has an average income for the community and enjoys at least some of the benefits from their job. In Vietnam, as an example, that would be a motorbike for the family, a roof over their head, enough food to provide reasonable nutrition and at some gadgets like a cell phone. The are able to go to the market and include include at least some protein/meat. I think this is where the real growth in consumption will come from. Not all the world is starving. Incremental/small improvements in diet will increase food consumption as much as population growth.

Not comparing these people to us in any way or their standard of living.

May post more but off to Peru next week. Not going to the real touristy place like Machu Pichu but some a couple of development projects outside of Lima. Will see if this trip redefines middle class.

This self righteousness and self importance that most farmers seems to have is utter bullshit. "We feed the world" give me a break, make me puke. I only care about feeding my family and ensuring that the land is around for my children to feed their own families.

I also humble myself by looking at China and India (both close to 1.3 bln people each) or about 1/3 of the world population that effectively self sufficient in food production. Even countries like Vietnam. We supplement what they need year to year and fill in production in disaster years. Western growth to a large extent is tied to their success in improving incomes/diets. Western Canada exports 50 % of what production. If you want to cut back on production as an industry, go for it and export - go for it.

I'm with wheatking. I try to be there to take what the land has to give and hope that society values it enough to meet mine and my families needs.

Here here wheatking and happy trails... Your reality is what will bring the overproduction caused by addiction to chem farming to an end. We all create our own reality and the bullshit reality that we need chem and GMO to feed the world is just that ---- BULLSHIT... Congadulations to the two of you for speaking truth. China and India - also great point Charlie. Teach a man to fish.

It's not up to us to feed the world.

                  It's up to:
                  1. Hunter harrison
                  2. Claude mongeau
                  3. Warren buffet
                  4. Bill Gates.

Those are the 4 guys that can help make it happen. They have chosen not to. In collusion with the following:

                  A. The richardson families
                  B. The Parrish families
                  C. The heimbecker families
                  D. The paterson families
                  E. The cargill family
                  F. Etc etc etc

The wealthy decide if anyone gets fed or given a gun.

                  It's become pretty obvious lately.

c'mon bucket, your giving hunter way too much credit ( your paranoid too ) when it comes to feeding the world canada is just a drop in the bucket, so to speak. And now buffet and gates are working together against us? Those two give away literally billions to charity. They probably took that money from your pocket though eh? Start a new thread sk3, positive 2015! i'm sure some good things are gonna happen this year.
