            Perfecto,

"perhaps it is time to put in a massive independent Government!"

We have a brand new Wildrose Party... an independent group from the old Wildrose... a fresh new start!!!

            I may be a Dreamer...

But that does not mean we will fail!

Alberta Has 2 good leaders... I just happen to believe... from the bottom of my heart... that Brian Jean will be a much better Premier to lead our province... than Jim Prentice!!!

            Cheers!

CALGARY — A former member of Stephen Harper’s Conservative caucus is the new leader of Alberta’s Official Opposition.

Brian Jean, a 52-year-old lawyer from Fort McMurray, Alberta defeated two challengers to win the position.

Jean resigned from federal politics last year.

Twice during his victory speech, Jean appeared to choke back tears while speaking about his son, Michael, who died earlier this month during the thick of the leadership campaign.

He thanked others who continued to campaign when he couldn’t in order to spend time with his family.

“Mikey was a very, very special person. When cleaning his room this week, I found a handwritten note on the table beside his bed,” Jean told party members at the convention in Calgary on Saturday.

“He wrote in his own handwriting, ’What you do for yourself dies with you, but what you do for others remains and is immortal.”’

The Wildrose leadership race became necessary when former leader Danielle Smith and eight Wildrose colleagues crossed the floor to join the ruling Progressive Conservative Party, leaving Wildrose with just five seats.

And the former leader of Alberta’s Official Opposition has paid a political price after crossing the floor because Smith lost the Tory nomination to Carrie Fischer in the riding of Highwood, south of Calgary.

Smith says she has mixed feelings with the loss.

She says she’s disappointed but believes she helped make Alberta a better place.

Jean edged out current Wildrose member Drew Barnes and former Strathcona County mayor Linda Osinchuk.

Members voted by telephone ballot for the last 13 days.

According to the leadership committee chair, Jane Morgan, 35 per cent of the party’s 25,000 members voted, and Jean took 55 per cent of the ballots cast.

The former leader of Alberta’s Official Opposition has paid a political price after crossing the floor because Danielle Smith lost the Tory nomination to Carrie Fischer in the riding of Highwood, south of Calgary.
Jean, who represented a northern Alberta riding in the House of Commons between 2004 and 2014, said he intends to keep the PC government honest fiscally and to take it to task for its failing health care system.

The leadership date was originally set for June 6, but the Wildrose moved it up because of speculation that Prentice is about to call an early provincial election

“Jim Prentice thought he was going to catch us flat-footed, that the PCs were going to take advantage of us. They thought by rushing an election, the Wildrose would not be organized, would not be ready, they would not be able to pick a leader and head into a campaign united and ready to fight,” Jean said.

“Not only are we ready to fight, not only can we fight and will we fight, but we will win.”

Longtime legislature member Heather Forsyth has been acting as interim leader since Smith’s departure.

Calgary political scientist David Taras predicted Jean would probably win, but Taras doubts a new leader will make much of a difference with the voting public.

“The downside is the vast majority of Albertans couldn’t pick him out of a lineup and his views are too far to the right for most Albertans,” said Taras from Mount Royal University before the convention.

“The party is in disarray and has very little time to get its house in order. But at least they will finally have a leader.”

Problem for the WR is that the problems didn't leave with the floor crossers - the real cancer within the party remains with the likes of Yaeger and the big oil pimps. Just another big oil sponsored party but this one big oil has withdrawn it's support for.
Wildrose - had potential - going nowhere - back to a one party state.

Tom, I'm pleased my explanation is helping you to start understanding whats happening around you. Pleased with small victories I'll try and build on that success.

Wildrose started out with some good ideas and grassroots support as a party build on property rights. But with Stelmach then Redford Big Oil thought it was losing control over it's puppets so they flooded the WR with money and support.
                    Their policies quickly changed.

As an example my MLA, Joe Anglin, the Wildrose Energy spokesman, wrote a press release on the slow clean up of an oilspill in his constituency. The party ordered him to send the press release to the oil company involved so that they could "approve" it before it was ready to release. Of course it was changed beyond recognition by the time they were done with it.
Joe eventually was ostracized by the party as he wouldn't be a compliant with these kind of games. Prentice came along and it was clear he was Big Oil's choice for premier - a Calgary Herald article stated that as soon as the nominations began. With a new puppet Big Oil no longer needed the Wildrose so collapsed their support of it.
The Wildrose are now consigned to the garbage can of Alberta history. Another casualty of Big Oil who run this province.

                      Grassy,

Brian Jean could very well reverse old ways of Wildrose... I know a number of Candidates... not one has any relationship with big oil. The Wildrose party with new people will simply be a new Party under new management. As always... time will tell... and the proof will be in the eating of the cake!!!!

                      Thanks; Tom

How can you not see the lesson here Tom?
Without the backing and financing of Big Oil the WR were going nowhere in terms of forming Government or even an effective opposition.
A few well meaning WR candidates won't change that. The small amount of rural votes that are concerned about property rights are irrelevant. The urban vote will always see the WR as a wing-nut, religious and homophobic outfit and will never back them.

Face it, Alberta is addicted to the oil gravy train and that isn't going to change, so neither are the politics.

                            Grassy,

I have learned a lesson Here:

New Wildrose Leader Brian Jean's son 'Mikey' died just over a week ago:
“Mikey was a very, very special person. When cleaning his room this week, I found a handwritten note on the table beside his bed,” Jean told party members at the convention in Calgary on Saturday.

“He wrote in his own handwriting, ’What you do for yourself dies with you, but what you do for others remains and is immortal.”’ ...

This kind of motivation can't be bought. It is about Love and Good overcoming injustice... building a better Alberta!

I am proud to be a part of the Wildrose... the quiters are now gone... and we do have a fresh new start!

                            God Bless Alberta!

                              Danielle goes down in defeat.

I remember when your hero Danielle Smith crossed the floor to join the Con's you said it took "courage". Their saying she was warned not to cross as it was a trap. Danielle was to busy thinking about herself rather than the Wild Rose party. Justice was done and Danielle got what she deserved.

Tom you still think she has courage? I can think of other adjectives to describe her.
