Wind! Ah I think 2015 will be different weather patern!

Yesterday was the most wonderful day to be out side. It was warm and the wind. Wow the wind was back.
A bunch of us sitting in line were talking about how something funny was happening this year that gave us all hope who live in the flood zone. Snow left mid march, yes their were a few snow storms since but they melted and now the wind was back to dry out the land. Yes was the comment of ever single guy. Wind that in the last few years was not around in spring. Snow cover that seemed to last till May first or longer.
But the wind is the one that has the power to dry up wet soggy ground. Wind is the one that takes flats that have three inches of water and makes them disappear. Wind that dry's out the stubble so seeding is a nice easy slice of the soil.
Wind, for some this is what we have been waiting a long time for. A year that's back to normal. Yes prices might be tanking but if you can actually seed into normal ground without spinning and going round and round.
That's a spring we all have been waiting for.
Its early for us yet but boy its nice to see a positive in Ag, Maybe just Maybe some of us hardest hit are going to see our situation turn around finally.

have never saw the northeast this dry this early , wouldn't mind seeing a little rain to even things out , but sure don't want to ask for one , lol . ground seems to be sucking up what little runoff we had . seeding in april around here usually not the best plan for spring frosts , but will be lots of it if nothing changes !

Certainly agree season is starting off right for us but one year in three or four we get a foot or so of snow to slow us down.
We can again remind opponents of biotechnology that days like yesterday would have been black from blowing soil without it.

Yea seeding in April in our area usually doesn't work very well. See some time in early may the temp dips very very low and everything above says good by and below some times also. April is good to get the peas in the ground then off to the races. Looks like a winner so far just need to get a really big water Canon and let it rip. yesterday could have hit Manitoba. Ah farming.

Canola seeding and wind wind wind. I rememeber back in the 80s seeding probably our driest year 1986 where you would go a mile up the field to the west turn around and go a mile back to the east and get out and check the seed bed. The canola row you just seeded was dry on top of the seed. You waited for a wet morning or the moisture from below allowed the little blue seed to germinate.
Ah farming where hopefully were past the flood years and can move forward again. Time will tell but wow this is good news.

It was windy, but cold here yesterday. High was 8. BUT even though it felt cold, at least the snow kept melting. For here, it is not early, just long term about normal. Run off starting to fade yesterday, and field snow almost all gone, just tree lines/bush left to go.

MAYBE first week of May start here, IF this holds. A big maybe, and an even bigger if.

But it does look better than it has for years. Tentative.

SF3, I was thinking the same thing yesterday as I drove over to a sale. We might be in a different weather pattern this year. Seeing a lot more wind from the west and southwest which we haven't seen for about 5yrs, even just having a strong wind blow all day without ending in rain fall. What will confirm it for me, will be, if some of the first low pressure systems coming out of Montana move east or southeast, rather than northeast. If that happens, then we're defiantly in a different weather pattern, which some people may not be very happy about, while those of us in the east will gladly take. Even if we're very dry in the fall, we'll be very happy to get most or all our land back and finally be able to get it back in proper shape and condition for 2016.
Yes it has been great drying weather, BUT, if we were to get an inch of rain before the 5th of May, all this drying will be for not!

I agree if we get a big rain now till may long we're back in the ditch! But windy again and yes no rain at the end of the day makes for a great day! 2015 could get a few acres back but if it's dry all summer then 2016 will be 100% back! That's the year I'm looking on!

Flashback. Spring 2010 or 11, can't remember?

Was harrowing April 24th. Then the rain started, and never stopped. Seeded nothing.
This is why I am tentative.

BUT, for me, the glass is looking more full than empty at this time. Good to hear some of you thinking this way.

Old folks say if there's no mice in spring, the bins will be empty, but not ours cause we have fusarium durum in them. Yippee!

Talking to a guy in NW Minnesota, started seeding yesterday and said he was down to 2" to hit moisture. Driest year on record for that area according to his local radio. Things could be alot worse, if this wind keeps up could be like that by May long.
