I was thinking about being on my Hunger Strike (now day 49) and my mind wandered in this direction!
Hope you enjoy this little bit of Alberta Election Humour!
ONE Alberta ANT TO ANOTHER!
The ANTS AND THE GRASSHOPPERS
This story is much different than usual.
Two Different Versions.
Two Different Morals.
OLD VERSION:
The ants work hard in the withering heat and driving rain all summer long, building houses, and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshoppers think the ants are a fools and laugh and dance while they play the summer away.
Come winter, the ants are warm and well fed. The grasshoppers have no food nor shelter, so the cold Alberta winters make life difficult and some die.
MORAL OF THE OLD STORY:
"Work hard and Be responsible for yourselves"!
MODERN VERSION:
The ants work hard in the withering heat and the driving rain all summer long, building their houses and laying up supplies to survive the long cold Alberta winters.
The grasshoppers think the ants are fools and laugh, dance and play the summer away.
Come winter, the grasshoppers call a press conference and demand to know why the ants should be allowed to be warm and well fed while they are cold and starving.
CBC, CTV, Global and City TV show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshoppers next to a video of the ants in their comfortable community home; with a table filled with nutritious food the ants gladly share with each other. Canada is stunned by the sharp contrast.
How can this be, that in a country of such ant prosperity, these poor grasshoppers are allowed to suffer so; with no loving home; or quality food!
Kermit the Frog appears on CBC News with Peter Mansbridge along with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, 'Our mouths are empty' in the land of rich and plenty!
Then Justin Trudeau makes a special trip west; has his group kneel down to self medicate and solemnly reflect on the grasshopper's plight...
PREMIER Jim Prentice condemns the ants because they had not provided a contingency plan to save the grasshoppers. Then Premier Jim blames former Premiers Ed Stelmach and Ralph Klein for not saving enough in the "Rainy Day Fund"; further blames overspending on Wildrose leader Brian Jean, and Conrad Black; sealing the fate of the grasshoppers! Their Charter Rights were quickly shown to have been violated by Alberta Supreme Courts!
NDP leader Tom Mulcair gangs up with Alberta NDP Rachel Notley; they explain in an interview with Wendy Mesley that the ants have gotten rich off the fat of the Land... which actually belongs to everyone in Alberta equally. Then along with Premier Prentice; they all call for an immediate tax hike on ants to make sure we pay our fair share... while we "look in the mirror".
The PC/NDP coalition deems our ant houses 'works for the benefit of Grasshoppers' under previously past Alberta Land Bills... and give us one month to provide grasshoppers "equal quality of lifestyle rights".
As These rights are not being provided by us ants fast enough... the Provincial PC/NDP coalition drafts the Economic Equity and Grasshopper Anti-Discrimination Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.
The ants are then fined for failing to provide the proportionate number of grasshopper facilities needed; and having shared all they could afford; there was nothing left to pay their retroactive taxes; their homes are confiscated by the Alberta Governments Economic Equity and Grasshopper Anti-Discrimination Czar, Danielle Smith, and given to the more deserving grasshoppers.
The story ends as we see the grasshoppers and their free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food supplies while the government houses they are in, (which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant's old houses), crumble around them because grasshoppers don't know how to maintain their new houses.
The ants disappear in the snow never to be seen again.
The grasshoppers are found dead in a round of self medicating related incidents, and the houses, now abandoned, are taken over by a gangs of spiders and snakes who terrorize and ramshackle these once prosperous and peaceful Alberta neighbourhoods.
Alberta collapses bringing down the rest of Canada with it, because there are not enough equalization payments to keep eastern Canada afloat.
