Who do you blame for all this. Farmers have moved forward with less tillage, better ways of seeding, and being more efficient. It's the grain companies that have fallen. Closing elevators. Railroads not wanting to put in 25 cars. Had to be at least 100. Govt for letting this change to happen. No vision. All for the all mighty buck and so called efficiency of the grain co and railroads.

One thing I do remember, when Art Mainil started the Weyburn Inland terminal, the one quote i will always remember, and at that time this person was NOT some old timer, said " I am not saying it is a bad thing, BUT if we as farmers start to show our government, grain companies, and railroads that we ARE willing to haul our grain any distance, then grain handling and hauling will become our worst nightmare in thirty to forty years."
You do the math on the time.

I think 41 years, and that man got absolutely bang on! All gone to hell, elevators, rail, and roads. I say the nightmare is just beginning. Time to exit and let young invincible guns go for broke.

Freewheat's quote: "I am too young to be this perturbed with farming!"

Cut yourself some slack man, at 39 you've probably been working out there for about 25 years man. A career lifetime for some professions. Not slaggin you just making a point. Lots of changes in that time...

Also remember Art Mainil and meetings to raise start up money for WIT.
Farmers thought we could keep Crow rates and at same time have large concrete elevators like those in USA.
Change came whether or not we wanted it.

We are where we are and do not see us going back to horse and buggy or homestead days.
Looking ahead, see continued change and worst course of action is to continue to gripe about it rather than adapt.

I am in the same age group as Freewheat. I turned 46 on apr 13th. I am a 4ht generation farmer/rancher. I don't like all of the changes, but have tried to roll with those change somewhat. For instance , I am seeding peas for the first time in this farms history. I grow more grain on basically the same acres my Dad farmed, but Mother nature has helped me with that more than anything. My equipment is not new, it's older , but so far it's hanging together , and basically paid for. What really gets to me is that my generation does not have the "buying power " of the dollars like my Dad did 40 years ago. That is what is hurting us young guys IMHO. I hate being married to the cows , but the last few years those old girls have been paying really , really good. Hope everybody has a good spring!
