No labour shortage here. The crop will almost be all seeded by May 1. Anyone complaining about a labour shortage should sell or rent out land to those with the resources to handle those assets and then the labour shortage is solved there as well.

Ditto on UK comments. Legislation high time.
My experience.
For someone to come half way round the world for six months they have to be rootless for a damn good reason. Young.
Wanting to emigrate, have their own family. Trades.
Western culture and language. An ounce of sense with machinery a challenge.
You have to know a patch worker really well for them to be considered on your bigger iron. You will pay 30-40 often cash only. Yes, I know a few are out there for 19. But sanity is priceless.
Easterners awful crapshoot.
My best have been freedom 55ers. But again strictly cash. And you do all the lifting.

I agree with Blackpowder. The retired farmers, 55-70 yrs old are steady as rain. They show up on time, they know how to put in a 10 hour day and usually see that something is broken or about to fail. Quite often the request is for cash money.
I am sure the younger bunch are much better with GPS, Field mapping and the technical stuff, but the old guys will figure I out eventually.
