Well its that time of year again, Wind is blowing yes this week is colder than last but at least its not raining. Wait this weekend might F$%K that up but what can you do. Federal budget is done and Yea when we sell were good on the first $1,000,000.00. Comments by the Ag Minister yesterday that he cant understand why some are saying we as a Gov need to do more for infrastructure. Then he yaps about how their is 100,000,000. mill for Saskatchewan to tap out of the feds for infrastructure. Ah yea Sewer water and ring roads.
Ah we were all talking getting goods out of Canada quick reasonable and on time. That's what was meant. Oh well sure wish I could get one of those cushy Jobs where your appointed to promote Canadian Ag in different places in the world. Lets see I would like Saudi Arabia, Uncle who was a Engineer built a highway years ago for a sheik their. He said it was very nice and interesting. Maybe that would be a good post. Free House, Free Car, Free staff, Private schools, my own driver, Maid etc. Then I could tell them Ah Farming.
Sad part some one will get these and basically do nothing. On another sad point read in India farmers are Committing Suicide at a alarming rate. Really their providing FOOD and Costs are out of Control so when the Shit hits the Fan they Kill them Selves. Wow what a system, Every one wins except the farmer. 42 In one Area or like a Sask. RM. One actually did it at a Rally Yesterday. Hanging him self during it. But then that's their not here. But my point is why are primary producers of food at or getting closer to the bottom and we do all the work.
So any way that's about the news in Canada and the world for the week now on to the crop report.
Most farmers in our area have their equipment just about ready to go. Still snow on the north side of yards and some back roads have a few snow banks left. Water has slowed and frost maybe is moving a little lower but oh so slowly.
The first field went up in smoke last night in the area. It was a wheat field with heavy stubble and a few brush piles. So not sure if the bush was burnt and fire took field or guy just burnt it all.
Water pumping is happening where guys own Canons. The new one from Alberta is neat but lots of old stand buys in area and a pump like the Hoffman's use on Gold rush to just move water. Were looking at one that can move a lot of water.
First field was also harrowed late Tuesday across the valley but really didn't do that great of a job yet lots of piles. No one out infields really doing any thing. One guy was fencing but sunk his tractor.
Oh the harvest did start up again last night as a field of flax was taken off. Interesting how you go about a couple rounds with no problem then sink, or you sink but still can drive as you hit the frost. Oats strait hasn't been started or oats swaths haven't been started. Funny the geese are not touching these fields, their sticking with last years pea fields instead.
Land their is still some available and some that might come available in the next two weeks. Guys are not jumping at the bit to take on as costs and prices and past piss poor years are limiting expansion.
Some new equipment purchases in the area but most was done last Farm Progress show or into summer and fall at lower dollar. Used is plentiful on all lots.
Rules rules and more rules. Seems Anhydrous rules are getting tougher each year. They worked on our tanks yesterday one hose was due to be replaced that was easy but the extra signage and documentation that has to be sent in now is insane. Ah progress.
So as far as seeding goes it seems southern Alberta from Emails is full blown seeding. SW Sask is going or just going. Nothing from Regina to Swan.
Manitoba south of Winterpeg no emails so guys what's going on their. Our area will see a few of the early seeders try on Monday if it doesn't rain. We are figuring Friday the 1st or Monday the 4th. Frost is still down at 1 to 2 ft and cold nights and moisture are all issues to slow seeding down.
Seeding plans seem to be still not decided on lots of farms. Some as high as 2000 acres with not sure what's to plant to last quarter or two what to plant.
Now if its peas or lentils or flax all seed is home and cleaned. If its wheat or oats or Canola these are the crops that acreage is unsure.
One thing I have to say that is so great about this year. Warmer, Dryer and Windy, All things that were missing in the last 8 to 10 years. Can it continue time will tell but right now a glimmer of hope is still their.
Have a great time seeding and be safe its only a crop.
