Danielle smith might have been premier of alberta.

Good thing Prentice proved how ****ing stupid she is.

Alberta would have been in a shitload of trouble with her.

Maybe we can sell it to the Saudis. Seems to be the trend.

No sense in trying to fix the issues ourselves.

China might have skewed economic numbers but they are building infrastructure. Very important if you are growing.

Saskatchewan has gained the equivalent population of swift current and moose jaw and ignored the required infrastructure.

            Grower99,

Let me remember the ways... let me count the ways...

            1)Best economic performance in the G7;

2)Softwood Lumber with US is settled.

3)Trade agreements with many far east counties that build better links to global markets.

            4) Supply managed Agriculture is still functional and prospering to the extent it can today with the huge overhead quotas cost. Yet the CWB 'Single Desk selling monopoly' ENDED; resulting with marketing freedom to choose who western Canadian grain growers sell their grain to... now every one right across Canada... for the first time since 1943!

5)We have integrated transport systems, that transfer Billions in trade each month... in without unnecessarily restrictive border controls.

6)Our Airlines are not bankrupt... making a reasonable profit at reasonable cost to the travelling public.

7)Our telecommunications/internet/cell are costing much less for many times the volume of services in real and adjusted dollars than 10 years ago.

8)Our Canadian postal services have reasonable service and fast options for those willing to pay extra.

9)Our vehicle standards (fuel emissions/safety) have been maintained to high North American standards... less pollution than EU vehicles... we have low sulphur diesel, Ethanol blended Gasoline... all that result in better air quality and less fuel consumption.

10)Lowest interest rates in over 50 years... allowing for capital investment in new and better Agriculture, Transportation, Forestry, Oil and Gas, Construction methods... an efficient low cost economy.

11)Cheapest food costs for Canadians... relative to earned wages... IN HISTORY.

12)Banking sector/credit card vendors required to roll back high charges and be transparent in contracts.

13)Longest life expectancy of any time in Canadian/entire history of Humanity.

            14) Globally More people eating more food, than ever before...

            15) less; air/soil and water erosion pollution; now than 10 years ago... producing more high quality food.

            16) folks complain there is too much water in western Canada to farm... where 10 years ago... we were a dust bowl!

            17) we have expanded and proved many more 'non-renewable fossil fuels' than 10 years ago.

            18) Fisheries are recovering, forests being replanted, new national parks being established.

            19) our armed forces are better equipped, trained, and ready to help when the call comes in/from the international community/UN.

            20) you still have the right to complain about how well we here in Canada are prospering!

...Only the slightest of margins separates Switzerland, Iceland, Denmark, Norway and Canada in the top ranks of the United Nations’ World Happiness Report released Thursday....

All of the happiest countries are wealthy, although only three of the top 10 overlap with the 10 wealthiest countries based on gross domestic product per capita — Switzerland, Norway and Australia.

That is not surprising, since the aim of the Happiness Report is to provide a counter-balance — the idea behind the report is that well-being is determined by more than just wealth, and that improving life satisfaction or happiness ought to be a consideration in public policy-making.

But aside from the fun provided by seeing which countries are happier than others — and yes, the United States has yet to crack the top 10 and remains just below Mexico at number 15 — this year’s report provides new evidence supporting the claim that happiness matters.

In an interview, Helliwell — a co-editor of the Happiness Report as well as co-author of the Statistics Canada report released earlier this week that ranked the happiness of Canadian cities and regions — noted that similar gains in happiness were recorded in Calgary after the floods of 2013, and after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Canada’s rank rose to fifth from sixth, despite the recent recession. Other countries that felt the effects of the recession more deeply dropped, says Helliwell. Canada’s happiness score of 7.477 was virtually unchanged from the previous report.

Among the key findings is that if unhappy people are trained to cultivate mindfulness, kindness and generosity, their brain’s circuits can be rewired. It’s something that policy makers might keep in mind when they try to figure out how to deal with criminals or even terrorists.

Policy makers are also advised to boost spending on more evidence-based treatment for children with mental-health problems. Making treatments more widely available, the report suggests, “would generate huge savings through improved educational performance, reduced youth offending and, later on, improved earnings and employment, and better parenting of the next generation.”

The overall message of the report is that the well-being of countries depends on individuals being able to make decisions for the common good — that the best societies are those where individuals act honestly and benevolently, and where they trust that others are as well.

It’s an old message in a new package that uses science and economics instead of religion and philosophy to appeal to the better, happier angels within us.

For all the left wing farmers:

22)Rostselmash (Russian: Ростсельмаш) is a Russian agricultural equipment company, based in Rostov-on-Don. It was founded in 1929. It primarily produces combine harvesters. The company income in 2005 was 400 million dollars. It used to sponsor a football club that used to be called FC Rostselmash and is, as of 2008, called FC Rostov.

On November 1, 2007, Rostselmash Inc. acquired 80% of the common shares of Versatile and it was announced that the Versatile brand name will again be the sole name associated with the tractor division.

Dmitry Lyubimov, President of Buhler Industries Inc, said the decision to rebrand the tractor division was not taken lightly. “We recognize the history that is tied to the Versatile name. There are still many older Versatile tractors at work on farms around the world. The name stands for well-built tractors that are powerful, simple and easy to maintain. It is the same philosophy we use today and we are proud of that heritage. It is with great pride that we announce that the Versatile name is back.” In 2012 Versatile combines were reintroduced with the RT 490 (sold in Europe as the Torum 740) which is the first mass-produced rotating concave rotary combine. The smaller conventional combines are distributed by Python Manufacturing under the Rostelmash name.

Only in Canada you say! What a wonderful Country... that allowed the Russians to take over Versatile!

That should make many happy Russian Agrivillers!!!

I don't care which party gets elected BUT whoever it is Had better start GETTING more share from the oil revenues as the province has looked like a FOOL for quite some time

Stelmach tried to increase royalties and the companies pouted, picked up their ball and ran to sask.
he should have talked to Sask and both provinces could have equal royalty structure.

Oil companies love playing one province against another

I agree mustardman. We need agreements between provinces on a lot of issues. Maybe we could spend some time on Canada/Canada trade agreements.

No matter who wins: time to renegotiate the equalization formula. Cannot speak for Alberta but it is imperative that
Saskatchewan spend some major coin on roads.

Something the NDP has to learn; government jobs are where we spend our money and they had better be adding something to our economy's ability to function. Claiming increases in employment when nothing of value is produced (except to the lucky recipient of tax dollars in a useless gov't job) is money wasted that the original earner of those dollars could have spent themselves to add productivity to the economy.

With very few exceptions, governments should only provide safety and infrastructure and a market friendly but enforced regulatory system, that wouldn't otherwise be provided by the private sector.

Except where monopolies are allowed to exist, a competitive private sector
will always provide the most innovative, cost effective economy because there is a reward for doing so.

In ultra-socialist systems, government is where your money goes to die a wasteful and unproductive death.

                                Just wasteful. Created nothing.
