    Friday Crop Report! on Thursday!

Well its that time of the week again. Sask Ag is giddy with excitement that farmers are seeding all over Saskatchewan. Ok not really but man their happy.
Small snow storm last week got some of Sask and then a bit of rain to quite a bit.
We lucked out and missed the rain event, but as far as the seeding question, last nights actions made me realize we still have a week to go. Went to burn another section started making the out side fire guard then for no reason at all down I went. Unhooked and crawled out used the rope to hitch and pulled out the Kelly. Hooked up again this time I'm thinking better be more careful and about a half mile away down I go again. Well this happened one more time before I went home. So unless I can find some dry land its looking like Monday to mid next week.
The other question of the week is how the hell are we farmers going to make any money this year with prices where they are. Not a single crop except lentils and early locked in peas has potential for more than break even.
But one thing is for certain all the suppliers think its a awesome time to be in the ag business. One seed rep for corn and soy was so excited about the coming year it was actually weird. Till I said I'm not doing no test plots unless its 40 acres plots not the bull shit 2 acres they were talking. Its a waste of time and I am done wasting my time.
Wow the Railways are back up to speed and the grain companies have finally got their shit together and are phoning for farmers to deliver. Ah its spring, winter was mild and is over, Seeding takes priority. What a system. A contract is good for one group its the grain company, not the farmers who sign them.
    So the Friday crop report.
I only saw two farmers seeding from Melville to Regina earlier in the week. The one is the usual first out of the gate and the other is the guy who lost so many acres last year to hail and flooding I guess its not going to happen this year. Yesterday late a few rigs made the official I'm seeding in April round. One guy went out at dinner made one round then unhooked and went working with the deep tillage.
Basically were all finding its really to wet to go but we want to go so bad.
Lots of people are burning this year. Two large farms in our area should have all their cereal stubble black before seeding. We think we will burn 30% or more of our cereal stubble. Water pumping is on going with lots of new big pumps in area and a few water canons. Guys are fed up so trying every thing. Lots are starting to harrow yesterday.
Ground is still bellow 5 but a few more hot windy warm days like the last two would get us their fast.
2015 plant is hours away just hope the wheels don't fall off in May.
Please be safe out their its just a crop.
Happy Seeding to all from the east side.

A few outfits started rolling yesterday locally here.
Farther north west a few guys have been going for a few days - they missed the last snow.
By Sat a few more will be going and Monday is the "Day" for most.
50 % of the fields here are almost ready now, the rest will be a good week yet.
Untouched cereal stubble is mud yet.
Weeds are growing fast - might actually spray ahead of drill this year .

Not much moisture in Regina this morning. This looks like a thin, fast-moving system. It was quite warm yesterday. No big thunderstorm, all good. What is Drew Learner predicting for the next two weeks?

Well Saskfarmer glad I am not alone on this no rush to seed. One gets excited when south and east of you they are going, and all you can think is WHAT THE ****. BUT BUT BUT after last falls gong show, oh what a few miles can make for rain difference. Like neighbor said, just before freeze up guys were dropping combines out of site here. Even though not much snow, enough for a bit of run off, and were does that run off go, the lower ground. So whats stopping the drills from sinking too. Ten days ago was saying the first I would start, then last week the fourth, now iam thinking eight or tenth. Good luck to all.

The rain seems to be picking up as you get to the valley but no big storm. Thank god for that. Last year after a warm day like yesterday and a SE wind we would have woke up with 1 to 3 inches in the gauge. Yes what a few miles can do. By the top of the valley some will go today. Further north you go yea a week away at best.

Just read on Weber report that a trader believes 40% of the prairies are ready to seed Canola. But he also figures their is no area in Western Canada that is to wet to seed.
Guy must be from Vancouver because he sure is high as a kite.

There are a lot of people in my life whose closest farm experience was eating cackleberries and bacon for breakfast.
"Snows gone why arent you seeding? Our meeting is for xx youll be all done by then"
                Anyway, Monday. Me, Tue-Wed.

The fewer the farms the less understanding. Meetings, social events and regular life for everyone else carries on. Why arent you started? , why arent you done? why arent you rolling?etc.
with all due respect to mainstream society, they enjoy nice weather and anticipate time off. All I want is "time on!"
Farmers are the opposite of what is now, the mainstream .
When I grew up you planned nothing from may 1 to june 1. The. august 19 to october 31 becUse thats farming.

Yard still getting wetter every day..Frost still coming out..Few more days!!

                      Test plots:

Dekalb rep. called to see if we were interested in doing 12-1 acre test plots..
Sounds like alot of wasted time now and in the fall..

Tried a few peas in the ground last night and lets just say I guess we will be taking the weekend off. Need more wind and heat. 3/10 didn't help yesterday morning.
                          Ah farming.
