Well lets just say it was a fun week to be in Saskatchewan. Wow were the only last real great place to live. Hm we went from a place that every one couldn't wait to leave to paradise on the prairies. Yes its marketing but Alberta you really F4%$Ked up, sorry. A little kick in the nuts can be handled but you castrated the party and now have 4 years for these clowns to destroy a province. Welfare for all doesn't work.
Back to positive news and wow what a nice week to be a farmer in Eastern Sask. Seeding started on weekend or just got going mid week this week. Yep its finally drying down and days like yesterday that the last 8 to 10 years would have given a 1 to 3 inch down pour only gave a trace or enough to wet the ground and stop seeding late yesterday afternoon.
Actually seeded some fields end to end as low flats water is gone or just about gone. Yes their are wet fields but really overall its a fun time to be seeding again as one almost forgot what that feeling is like.
We hit the 15% mark late yesterday afternoon for seeding some like I said are ahead and some are just starting or thinking about it.
Weeds have finally started to show their face and a few have done some burn off.
Speaking of burn off Eddy Match is still the areas biggest burn off this spring. Fires and black fields are every where. If it turns dry time will tell if it was a good move but for now seeding these fields is a dream. Hardly any dust after the burn and ground warmed up. Worked fields from last fall are surprising us at being still wet in some areas. But at least the sprayer ruts are gone.
Fertilizer is not in any way short in supply. Dealers have lots of Canola seed available from all the companies and any variety.
Still a few fields with no takers and guys seem to have the attitude we just want to get this crop seeded and that's all we have on our mind. Seed our own farm and not worry about taking on any new Land, or even equipment lots are full.
Grain deliveries are still weird as it seems the companies do contracts with farmers for delivery in say March April to just guarantee supply. Then know they don't have to take product because the stupid farmer wont try to get out of the contract so they have a old hook line and sinker program. Bend over its the new Barrel. The grain deliveries and contracts in Canada are still a joke but with every one in the field every thing is just rosy.
So again its been probably the best start to seeding in our area in at least 10 years, We still don't need moisture till early June for the first nice rain or after seeding a little shower no heavy rains. Funny with all the black land from fires and fall tillage their still on a extremely windy day no real dust.
So be safe and enjoy the season of spring maybe I can honestly say were BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
