    Friday crop report on Thursday!

Well what a week of doing what farmers love to do when conditions are back to normal, it's seeding. Back and forth back and forth and then fill and move on., wait no getting stuck every turn, no having with two rigs only 200 acres a day because your constantly stopping to pull fill or just quit early because your exhausted.
Well as of Tuesday night were at 50% done.
Funny thing last year we started on the 12 th and the year before it was the 16 th.
most in our area are just above to close to 50% done. Now ten miles north and 30 west it's more like Monday was a start day.
Rain did hit Wednesday but it was a time to repair equipment and get ready for the final push.
Seeding plans are changing as we go. Had durum booked for seed for 2016 but over treated hrs so last field is three varieties and no durum went in the ground.
Lots of guys are looking at the same idea get seed ready for 2016 as if the weather pattern has gone back to normal we will be able to grow durum in the rotation and cancel oats and barley.
I still say peas and lentil acreage is high to extreme. More rolled fields than ever in our area even guys who swore off peas or I sell felt to farmers why grow peas are growing peas and some lentils.
Lots of canola is just going in the ground but canola seed is so abundant in suppliers ware houses you know the acreage is going to be way down.
Flax our area will be blue flowers white flowers and a few yellow.
As far as moisture conditions. Fields worked last fall are excellent to seed and no dust when seeding to min.
Fields burnt are the best for seeding expspecially if low areas are worked a day or two before seedin. Min dust to some ash lifting and causing rads to be cleaned but no blowing etc.
Fields harrowed last fall and again this spring are ok but seeding these is more of a challenge.
So basically it's the best seeding in about 8 to 10 years moisture is excellent for at least another two to three weeks needed for the first 1 inch rain.
Funny beavers do so much damage as they seem to be able to stop water in ditches back roads or between dugouts even if their is only two to three trees.
Supplies of everything from seed to fertilizer to spray to diesel are all readily available with no shortages on anything.
Still dirt that's not taken as of yet but it might be by fall.
Oh and elevators need grain. What a system in Canada. It's not just the railways who are screwing farmers.
Equipment that's used and in good shape is moving or bargain row equipment is going out but price a new tractor or combine or drill for next year and you want to see a deer in the headlights moment look in a mirror. Ouch ouch and WTF ouch.
Weed pressure and spraying those are topics that with the cool nights are a tough decision. Spray and wait or seed and spray after or like the worked last fall fields do nothing as nothing is growing. The make it black experiment so far for seeding is working. Time will tell.

Be safe have a great week seeding and remember every one takes their piece of the pie but it's you that has to be able to cook it so if you get hurt cooking it the hole system doesn't work.
All industry is counting on us to keep them fat and fit.
    Ha ha ha.
Be safe it's only a crop family back home needs you.
What are others seeing in their area.

Only two things not good here:
    1. frost - every morning - like ground hog day.
    2. DOT moved into the area and are nailing everthing that moves - even 1/2 tons with seed or chem for unsecured loads. They have even chased guys down back roads.

The rest is all good, first peas and wheat poking up , moisture still very good.

Good seeding conditions here, finished tues. may 12. Moisture is good, if we get some heat the crops and weeds will really jump!

Pretty much ditto that Colleyville except I had a frost free night last night. Crossed half way last night. Probably average for area. Some issues caramel Bruno hills not my land soft spots and other pockets around. here is also soft Might have issues getting to my planting seed bins yet. An occasional stuck so just a challenge but moisture is nice here. Surprised elevator has not called my 50,000 bushel may delivery. then again told them it's not going to happen until done planting. Good help this year.

Should START tomorrow, on my highest and dryest. As usual, we are in the pocket of frozen, wet Disneyland. Pick a field, I can get you stuck 10 places where it was seeded through last year. Area maybe 5% done. And we have hardly had measurable rain, just little re-dampeners here and there: it just won't dry. Highs of 6 and 7 do nothing for anything... A few guys, ( me included), have fields that are borderline whether they get seeded this year. High water table areas just are not drying.

Forecast looks decent. Today is cloudy and miserably cold.

We're about three quarters done canola with a quarter section of soybeans to go. We could have pushed the canola in quicker but, what's the new saying, "canola sown together freezes together"?

It has been cold here. Too cold for soy. Yesterday didn't climb over 8C. Monday might be minus 4!

Grass crop in pastures still slow. Stockpiled spring pasture nice though. It's currently raining but cows are harvesting that stockpiled stuff nicely.

Sounds like a wet maybe stormy weekend. Typical for a long weekend. Our barley seems to be the happiest crop growing right now.

Wheat flax and canola done. Waiting till next week to plant soys. Wheat coming but slow. Flax poking through on light land but kinda hoping its stays under this minus 4 they're forecasting for Monday night! Did some burn off in very low temps, so interesting to see how it works. 3 tenths in gauge from this morn, central mb. Off to pack camper........
