Well all I can say is this is the most fun I have had seeding in 8 to 10 years. The ground is starting to really firm up but their are still wet areas. Lots of fields are back to normal but their is still the odd wet one that has issues that 5 years of dry weather wont cure.
We were able to get to 75% done as of last night. Even if a 80 acre piece had to be reseeded due to a blockage monitor fail.
Lots of fires still taking place as guys realize fire is a tool in your tool box like heavy harrow or disc. One guy even heavy disked a half section we will see how that turns out.
Some have started to do a burn off again after the cold nights. Lots took a few days off seeding to spray because the crop was poking through on them.
Peas are starting to poke out and are coming on strong. Funny the burnt fields are up sooner and seem to be doing better than the fields seeded into strait wheat stubble. Weed pressure is not even on the radar. Odd patch of wild oats just starting to show up. Nice rows.
Wheat is starting to poke out, not as fast as the peas but still the odd row is noticeable last night.
Canola is half seeded and nothing is really up so frost this week was a min. We didn't have the real cold temps like the west side did. Next week their is another cold threat that could be the killer.
Barley the odd field is up and the cold did yellow and set it back some.
Oats not seeded or just going in.
Flax is going in right now.
Lentils our area is not really big on lentils and seems no one grew any this year.
Soy is just going to be seeded this weekend as the ground is way to cool to get that nice start that they need. Don't rush soy just to say your done seeding if the conditions aren't their.
So to wrap up the week our area is going balls to the wall and most will be done about Monday or the weekend. Yes its been one hell of a nice normal spring finally on the eastern side. Water doesn't leave instantly and you can seed but still not having to worry all day if trucks drills tractors will sink out of site is a blessing. Seed to dust the bins will bust. Hey you only need 4 timely rains to grow a great crop. First rain needed is June 2 to 7.
Be safe and remember it only a crop some one at home cares more about you than your suppliers and buyers.
Good luck!
