Just curious on how you justify these machines with there individual adjustments and complex depth control. Do they really increase yields enough to justify their cost and do they work with 10 or 20 dollar canola?

Agstar, that is exactly right. I have no idea if perfection at seeding translates into bushels in the fall. My yields I do know, are as good or better as neighbors with machines valued 20 times what mine is. However, I often wonder how much I am leaving on the table. Maybe I would be leaps and bounds ahead of them, I dunno?
I do know peace of mind at and after seeding for me, would be worth something to me. I would keep my tank, and just buy a toolbar to go with it. A 40 footer is not that bad at all, really.
Great question though, I wrestle with it every spring...My crops turn out ok every time. But this year, it seems less likely to be rainy. Which on the one hand is awesome. But on the other, my seeder needs some forgiveness.

First peas getting Odyssey for residual if/when rains.
Barley looks good, only touched by frost. One guys bly was fubar.
Wheat emergence good an roots in moisture but a25 bu crop if no rain in June.
Canola. What a mixed bag. Early seeded in area wiped out by frost or beetles if your emergence was good.
Later seeded fine unless a C shank drill and trash. Then poor densities.
If no adequate rain for June then not much to "price protect" at $497.
Feed will be dear if u need it. Cc pairs down a $1000. Pastures slim.
