    Not saying it won't happen but drought outside Palliser triangle is less likely.
    Would seem like good business practice after generally good moisture years in triangle to take advantage of crop insurance and Agristability.
    Maybe too late for this year but multi year drougth and wet are harder to take.
    Naysayers and government opponents have given both programs worse reputations than deserved.

      Unfortunately we may have to test it, Hopalong.

        farmaholic , I'd say both . look at the profits of the big boys last 2 years ? you think they gave you your share ? they use any excuse to drop price or hold it down . this whole market horseshit is a joke . I'm not hearing a whole lot about this western prairie drought are you ? they have us buffaloed into signing these horseshit contracts where they have no risk whatsoever . yes , and the farmer knows the risk when he signs it , but unfortunately what other option is there if you want to deliver grain . just 2 weeks ago there was lots of talk on here that canola prices couldn't go up because of soy? well guess what it did and it's just getting started . why should the farmer always have to take the hit.

          Great points Caseih.

          The canola vs soybean spread is now something to watch, soybeans don't seem to be holding back now that there is production concerns in western Canada.

            I thought Western Canadian production didn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. Especially to the domestic crushers. ;-}

              Conditions can change pretty fast, but we need a hurricane or a volcano. That jet stream is not allowing the systems to come up here from Montana.

                Mother Nature may inflict the "grow less for more money" policy without Producer approval. Unfortunately she picks winners and loser. Someone elses misfortune is somebody elses fortune. This could also cool the redhot land prices in some areas. Lets hope everyone gets what the need for successful year on their farm. Good luck everyone, its a big part of it. Take care.

                  yea you're right , I think it's about 90 % luck . we have a beautiful start here if it could just rain ! and no one is talking about the soy-canola complex or whatever it's called now that soy is going along for the ride with the canadian canola, "that has no bearing on prices " according to the experts . oh and canadian crushers will pay whatever they need to , same as we seed crops with no hope of making money other than a wreck somewhere

                    One lich last week 1/2 Monday and 1/2 Friday night. This type of rain makes grain . This is a normal year.
                    Don't some of you realize some times no rain till farm progress show one or two times July 1 or 3.
                    Wheat roots going down and canola might not be a pretty crop.
                    But it's early let's see what happens. Their is no sure crop area in Canada. Mother Nature runs the show.
                    It is extremely dry up at the lake. Reseeded stuff up that way might sit in the dirt till first major rain.
