I've been following the Sierra Club's neonicotinoid seed treatment legislation in Ontario with great interest. A bunch of urdan politicians swallowed the activists propaganda hook,line and sinker and now farmers, rural residents and bees will pay the price. Giving up seedtreatment and replacing it with post emergent insecticide spraying is ridiculous.
In light of Alberta's new government's "outside the box" thinking demonstrated by the appointment of a Toronto activist to head the the energy ministry. I wonder what silliness is about to befall the Agriculture department in Alberta?
Legislated crop rotations? Feedlot moratoriums?

I'm sure by the end of their first eight years, they'll have someone come up with a method to catch cow farts. They won't be there for just four years, once you let those socialists roll around in all that Alberta money(not undifferent than the Redford), they'll find ways to get re-elected!!!

How does obama put it, "gonna fundamentally change Alberta", Mulcair has them playing nice till the federal election is over, just wait till next springs budget, then they'll start to reveal themselves.

There'll be a lot more than seed treatment to worry about, think about on farm chemical storage, maditory training to apply chemicals and ferts. Fuel storage regulations, etc

A lawyer I know in the Edmonton, when I asked him " what country in the world is the most inefficient crop nitrogen applier" his answer was Canada. Yes we can be afraid.

Yep its just all ****ed. We got nutcase driving around in trucks with machine guns shooting at who knows what with foreign countries dropping bombs everywhere.

It's bad, real bad. FFS people, alberta had a corrupt government that had been in power for too long. Is the ndp better -I don't know but it can't be worse.

Same with harper - it's time for alot of them so called caring conservative mps to **** off. They got their golden pension that they said they would reform but never did.

Again, wtf does a lawyer know about how fertilizer is managed? We're the farmers. WE manage our resources and don't need lawyers, floor traders or anyone else that hasn't busted their ass squeezing a buck out of a droughted out crop, tried to float something to sell from flooded gumbo, or rescued calves from a spring blizzard.

It doesn't matter a tick what province or what governing party, anyone trying to face down ag should be faced with farm leaders with teeth and are willing to bite.

"Ag More Than Ever" should be more than a catch phrase job opportunity for undergrad ag students.

It's the actions behind those catchphrases that make the difference.

We are lacking in farm leadership and actions.

In one week without rain this is going to garner some pretty major attention.

And actually if it does rain it still leaves some tough decisions on farms.

The crop isn't there like many are expecting. Frost stress. Drought stress. Low humidity stress. Chemical stress.

Crops are not growing like most expect given the growing cycle.

My true story about the lawyer conveys the fact there are more voters in downtown Edmonton who walk to work than there are farmers.

Maybe legislated not the same crop in 4 years would keep the canola industry around a bit longer.

If I were a farmer in Alta with one or more paid workers I'd be more than just a little
concerned? I got a feelin the new goberment and union creeps maybe looking down your drive way!

Ok Alberta if you don't want to look what happened in Saskatchewan after years of NDP government and need a closer to home real life NDP go to Manitoba. Just over a million people and it has more debt per capita than Quebec. Yep. Boy the NDP is a winner.
Biggest mistake in History will be Alberta voting in a Majority NDP. Letting her win with a minority would have cleaned house the Conservatives etc. But your stuck with her for 4 to 5 years. Have fun.

   Regardless who is in power. There are far more voters who walk to work past homeless people and used needles on their front steps than there are farmers or whatever. 
Regardless of party, voters have quite naturally changed from a concept of earned societal benefits to a culture of entitlement. 
Future elections will increasingly reflect that.

It's just too bad Alberta switched to socialism/NDP from the PC's......

Good for Saskatchewan economy if Alberta's corporate income tax is increased, royalties are raised and minimum wage goes to $15.

Hopefully we get workers and businesses moving to Saskatchewan.
