There is one difference. Grain wasn't on highways.

The youngest nation on the planet has built and destroyed more rail lines. Crazy.

And people wonder why this nation doesn't grow in population.

If you look at total costs involved with moving grain, it's not sustainable much longer.

No one is looking 20 years out.

Highway cost vs railway cost. No one has done the math.

And yet people including myself will go to a farm show to look at progress.

Thankfully, I stepped off that ride A decade ago. I am so backwards it would be embarassing for me to attend. I am still spraying with a rodweeder and tine harrows!

Drills and tanks still not big enough. Hauling more grain around the field in tanks than my forefathers bin sizes were. Drill widths that are becoming impractical for many areas of the prairies. Drills will be a maintenance nightmare because of so many moving parts with pins and bushings and hydraulic cylinders and hoses. When and where(in size) is the "progress" going to end.

Tillage is back, at least at the show it is. A new
name for an old practice----vertical tillage. More high maintenance equipment, basically tandem discs, each disc with its own bearing assembly and a row of "packers" behind. Protill needs 10-15 hp/ft....40 foot needs about 600 hp at the high speeds required...hope your fields are flat, lol. I realize not all areas are dry but tillage for some people in this moisture environment is absurd.

Should only go every third year. Might see something new then.
