I agree with LEP. The potential for a re alignment is in the making. It will not be a media frenzy but a more subtle correction. This happened in the late 80s where farmers went nutso when they saw a dollar of profit and overspent. many farmers gave in, they handed over the properties and went on to something else. Other farmers renegotiated their debts and continued farming. My neighbor went to FCC, negotiated to rent back the land form them for 6 years. 5 years he paid the rent and year 6 bought back the same land for half the original purchase price. Very clever. He always had new eauipment. He has since retired a millionaire. Todays big farms are high functioning operators, if they have presented the right documents to convince lenders to operate at this level, they will be able to negotiate write downs and continue to control the properties they have. These guys do not necessarily want to be "farmers" their end game is to be multi millionaires and they will do what is necessary to accomplish that.

After writing a response and then erasing it and writing a new one and erasing it over and over my answer is real simple.
NO.
Cowboys on feed yes something, Deferal or pasture finder or what ever we need that herd to stay where it is and grow. It usually adds to feed costs but feed will be the big problem.
Ag Stab will work if you harvest shit all. But a shower and 10 canola and 15 wheat will give you nothing.
Hail Hail and more and you might do really good.
Its Canada the toughest place in the world to grow a crop.
Mother nature controls more of your outcome than any thing at Farm Progress show has to offer.
Lots were sold a lie about this is the new normal with crops and our super varieties are able to take on anything. Crop advisors and specialists can tell you every thing on plant health growth and profit But.
She is a cruel Bitch that runs our lives and we have to work with her to survive.

Your exactly right hobby, it is a plan that has worked for many before and a few more will make it in the future.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Sorry Cuban, massive personal / farm debt is not a gov't or taxpayer liability - it is a personal problem that not every one has.

The election is on Oct 19/2015, anything is possible to buy votes. Harper wants to retain power. All those who have stated no to a bailout would that change how you would vote?

What world are some of you living in? Realignment? ha haha for farmers? The only realignment for farmers is your down the road. The oil industry and foreign ownership has brought on this crazy cost to do anything here it won t go down, just more Chinesem middle easterns and Asians and isis supporters owning Canadian farms and oil companies.
Those costs we have are the cost of the world except everyone else is getting paid higher wages etc so life goes on, we re in a disaster and living with grain prices that are 1930 prices, we were in a disaster before the drought even started.

You guys are in denial.
For the past decades everyone has been telling farmers to become businessmen.
Well most business this large as a whole depend on government support.
Let me name a few. Ford gm evraz bombardier Chrysler. The railways started with help from government.
This is a weather related issue just like 2010.
Anyone put your hand up who didn't take the too wet payment.
This year is worse because farmers spent money putting a crop in. And many won't be taking one off.
They just don't know it yet because it's still green. But 4 inch high canola that's bolting won't be worth swathing. And neither will 2 inch high lentils.

If people say cattle guys need help because there is no feed. That's bullshit too. I have land no one would hay the last few years. They can sell their cows easier than a farmer with no crop.
There is a place that needs cows - texas or the slaughterhouse.
Notice I didn't say sell land just the crop off the pasture.
But farmers prices of grain are in the shitter and they will be exploited thanks to the grain families.

How about the guys that have had all their land swallowed up by the lakes in saskatchewan. No help for them nope nothing your on your own. If that doesn't quailify as as disaster I don't know what does. At least in a drought you still have your fertilizer in the ground for next year. Crop insurance should pick up the rest.

You will hear more about a correction in the media etc when the landlords start feeling pinched. HaHa. Billions in "equity" no longer paying them a %. Disaster!
I've worked 20 years for room and board when younger. I've taken older equipment and used it into the ground at times. I've gone 15 years without leaving this damn place when younger.
When I quit people will say failure. Screw them. Due to an incredible string of shit in my personal life I face serious restructure every year.
I've seen many aid packages over 35 years and I say no goddamn way! Live by the sword, die by the sword. The leach population can only grow at the rate of the host.
