    We need Aid !!!!!

Time has come for Wall government to start discussing what level of assistance producers need to get through this drought!! They might as well start talking to us now and begin work on setting up an aid package, cause with the amount of debt on farms today things are gonna get real ugly real fast!!

Oooh OK. I'm of two minds about that topic. My balance sheet is strong, I can handle a year of really shitty returns. Why should the government bail out the neighbor who rolls past my yard with his quarter-million dollar sprayer while I sit in my old patriot?

Get taxpayers to bail out million dollar farmers. That should go over well.

Yeah and the other side of my mind says that if they limit my profit in years that grains are scarce they owe it to us to make it up on when we are raising a meager crop at a loss. The CWB was great at giving excuses why they had to give our grain away at less-than-gouging levels only to 'keep good customers' in the world. **** that. Gouge away. Those customers have no trouble buying at rock-bottom prices when the wheat is plentiful.

My opinion on this subject does not speak to mine nor any one personal situation.
In reality that train left the station a long time ago.

Things have changed. We all now live in a world of borrowed money. We farmers, as well as many other businesses, as a collective have become to big to fail. It is better to continue to prop big business up than it is to deal with the fall out of allowing them to fail. Yeah if a few bite the dust so what, but if hundreds start to suffer look out. The impact will be huge on the economy and not in a positive way. If the farmers suffer then all the parasites that feed off us will too and they will pressure government to keep the slaves on the farm so they can make money off them.

Black powder , I couldn't agree with you more.

If the current level of support doesn't keep you in business, book the auction sale.

In 2009 a small localized drought took a huge bite out of my balance sheet. It wasn't fun but we made it through it. That year being in the back of my mind has tempered a lot of things I could have done, but didn't.

I watch my debt level, keep some powder dry and have access to enough credit to get through what looks like a repeat.

What *** support are you talking about. If your in an area that's had five or six good crops and not like us flooded out there is no *** support. And the worst enemies are the assholes that have had good weather that get on here bragging about their bank accounts.

All I'm saying is this is gonna be bad because of the huge acreage involved. You can bet that government will need to come up with some type of acreage payment. The overwhelming majority of farmers today carry huge debt. That combined with the current cost of production numbers and most farmers will no be able to service their debt and then watch the dominos start to fall.
The government will not let this happen because the fall out will be too great! They know the money they hand out will get spent and thats exactly what they want us to do with it.

I put more than 300 hrs on an 800 Versatile with no a/c or radio in the past year.

Don't know where you get off calling my post bragging.

Just saying, I live on less than I make. Don't ask me to pay for a handout to those that don't.
