What world are some of you living in? Realignment? ha haha for farmers? The only realignment for farmers is your down the road. The oil industry and foreign ownership has brought on this crazy cost to do anything here it won t go down, just more Chinesem middle easterns and Asians and isis supporters owning Canadian farms and oil companies.
Those costs we have are the cost of the world except everyone else is getting paid higher wages etc so life goes on, we re in a disaster and living with grain prices that are 1930 prices, we were in a disaster before the drought even started.

      You guys are in denial.

For the past decades everyone has been telling farmers to become businessmen.

Well most business this large as a whole depend on government support.

Let me name a few. Ford gm evraz bombardier Chrysler. The railways started with help from government.

This is a weather related issue just like 2010.

Anyone put your hand up who didn't take the too wet payment.

This year is worse because farmers spent money putting a crop in. And many won't be taking one off.

They just don't know it yet because it's still green. But 4 inch high canola that's bolting won't be worth swathing. And neither will 2 inch high lentils.

If people say cattle guys need help because there is no feed. That's bullshit too. I have land no one would hay the last few years. They can sell their cows easier than a farmer with no crop.

There is a place that needs cows - texas or the slaughterhouse.

Notice I didn't say sell land just the crop off the pasture.

But farmers prices of grain are in the shitter and they will be exploited thanks to the grain families.

How about the guys that have had all their land swallowed up by the lakes in saskatchewan. No help for them nope nothing your on your own. If that doesn't quailify as as disaster I don't know what does. At least in a drought you still have your fertilizer in the ground for next year. Crop insurance should pick up the rest.

You will hear more about a correction in the media etc when the landlords start feeling pinched. HaHa. Billions in "equity" no longer paying them a %. Disaster!

I've worked 20 years for room and board when younger. I've taken older equipment and used it into the ground at times. I've gone 15 years without leaving this damn place when younger.
When I quit people will say failure. Screw them. Due to an incredible string of shit in my personal life I face serious restructure every year.
I've seen many aid packages over 35 years and I say no goddamn way! Live by the sword, die by the sword. The leach population can only grow at the rate of the host.

For one the Chinese love this they built cities that are empty for fk sakes so paying a small amount in their terms to own us is fk all. Walls buddies will have a hay day of land to make a profit off the next batch of farm families sent down the road.

Bucket, I am surprised about your cattle statement, I thought you were more level headed. I have said before, with cattle you have built your heard up, and now nothing to feed, at least grain land can wait till next year in a drought, it waits every winter regardless. Try telling that to a bunch of starving bone racked cows. Come on bucket, you disappoint me.

                  Yup.

Tried calling CPP and their partners the other day. They are not buying now but will be once this goofy review is over. The outcome is predetermined. The government wrote the survey questions FFS.

                    Ag chat.

                    Sorry.

Feeding the cows is just as important as feeding the land.

I thought someone would review my comments. Just playing devils advocate.

I have cows. Not short of feed but then again I wasn't expecting a frost to **** things this bad for cattle guys. They deserve a good return as well.

Subsoil moisture to grow a hay crop is there but the hay crop here is ****ed.

Points that agriculture still hasn't got their shit together and asked collectively for the right program.

I have alot of money out in the ground that I would rather just hit with roundup right now. Sure the fertilizer will still be there but my input suppliers are not going to wait for October 2016 for payment.

Not sure why ranchers wouldn't trickle a few more head out each week if conditions are that bad. Selling more now while prices are so high, might be better than waiting till more are dumped on the market and prices drop. Besides selling off some now would reduce the pressure on grass and feed, no?
I guess they all think it's gonna rain and that they might get by without selling more than calves?

Wow, interesting how I make a couple comments on a previous thread and it dies but this one is active

I fully agree with many posters on this one. Way too much debt, some because of huge ego and ability to access financing and lease debt.

Leasing is a big part of it and I will continue to argue this one. Too many operators getting into equipment way over priced for their operation because the least debt and especially pmts are half or less compared to a purchase.

I'm not sure what to think about on a bail out but When the government has let Chinese sales of land happen and government buying land themselves forcing land prices up and rents up because of it What has this helped us on non crop year. Now I realize it's not the only factor if we do not produce a crop, iron fert and chem play a big role but this hasn't helped any of it either because of the government allowing these sales to take place.

New or old equipment costs are similar.

I have had older equipment go down at a bad time . Repairs are no longer that cheap and at the wrong time can be more expensive than just running new or newer.

But this disaster isn't about equipment it's about getting just back what was put in. I would rather use roundup and call it a year.

Bluejay. Trouble is, who forced the farmers to expand and pick up land and cave to the added "pressure"?

I mean, not everyone chases land like it is the last thing on earth that could satisfy their jollies, no matter the cost.

I disagree with the issue of land ownership and how things have gone that way, sure, but we do not have to be pigs at the trough and over pay for questionably producing land, no?

Like a bunch of sheep running over the edge of a cliff. Because for some, expanding and having more, IS ALL THAT MATTERS!

Did a 6000 acre farm, just have to grab another 3000 to be "feasible"???

Or do they grab it because it is available, and if they don't get it, Jim the neighbor might get it, and that's just mot right...
