Maybe the seed breeders would like to run on our model. You mean I invest zilch in a crop? Boy wouldn't I like to write my own cheque REGARDLESS of what happens...

Oh yea the practical answer is to become one, right?

The practical answer once again is to become one, right?

yeah lets give our publicly owned wheat genome to the seed companies so they can deregister or demote the current varieties and create new ones that are no better and levy big royalties from us for the use of "their" genetics.

There is going to be a lot of shit that hits the market when this thing gets rolling. They will all be vying for their piece of the freshly baked pie. From a marketing campaign standpoint it will all be better than what came before it but agronomically maybe not so much. Super Seeds coming your way soon, stay tuned.

Just because GMO's have patent periods; doesn't mean that those protection periods should last forever....just because the creators know they would have additional years of royalties and mandatory technology agreements.

There's nothing unfair, Tom, in having current laws and regulations apply to agribusiness and not just to farm customers.

Thats why there is a conflict of interest in having seed growers promoting agribusiness interests....because it is obvious both of above stand to benefit from their symbiosis with their mutual bedfellows.

Interests that are arguably quite often at odds with a common farmer's long term needs and ability to pay whatever exhorbitant fees and costs are set.

this privatization of the seed to a few private corporations is a dangerous thing for farmer and consumer.

with out a seed you have got nothing.
with out a a right to a seed, your land is worthless

whom ever controls the seed has the ultimate power to extract as much as they want from agricultural production.
              and screw everyone else.

in a perfect dream world of mom and pop store business competition, it would not be a problem.

but we all know it does not work that way.
whether your a rail road, a grain co.
fert. or ag chem . co. if you can control the supply.
              you control everything

just watch this govt destroy public breeding.
i could give a crap about the senate mess , when we are quietly being screwed way worse , so many other ways

you don't know you got till it's gone

Guys come on, you've made Bayer and Monsanto who they are with the purchase of canola seed.

You no buy, they no exist. But you love the shit and you can't live without it.
So quit your whining that they are in control when you give them that control every time you decide to buy seed.

                Are you just that slow?

List "all" the viable options if you want to grow canola.

I appreciate "value" but at what cost?

Thankfully I didn't grow canola this year

My plan was to grow conventional argentine untreated canola. Wish I would have considering the way it turned out for most and spraying for beetles.

Next year that will be the plan.

Spray a good burnoff with bug spray with residual , seed and see how it turns out.

Rain will still be a major consideration though.

Bucket, if you have a good rotation you need neither the fungicide or the bugicide seed treatment that is force packaged with canola for the 2 year rotation crowd - which is most of the acres.

The diseases come form your soil, not the seed, and is a direct reflection of your farming practice on how much inoculum you build up.
