    AB Gov will change AB farms and bring them into 21 Century...

    AB Risk Management on farm to Change:

    We Crop farmers Met yesterday in EDM about the MANY changes being brought forward by multiple AB Gov Depts in AB;

    1) AB Ministers very likely on Monday to announce change to AB Labour Employment Standards.... as we were told farmers are done being exempt; as paying and treating too many farm workers unfairly;

    2) AB ND's very likely to implement OH/S technical rules ..eliminating our previous OH/S AB safety workplace exemptions for farms; as farmers kill and seriously injure farm workers at a unacceptably high rate;

    3) WCB worker compensation voluntary exemptions for worker injurys on farm are very likely to end... (AB gov can't trust farmers/private insurance and the courts to protect AB farm workers) as there are 53,000 AB farms that 'need' and therefore will be gov. regulated... (ABGov knows best)

    4) AS farms can not be trusted to be fair to AB farm workers they employ by themselves (even if only a very few bad farm operators give bad optics); farms require Gov. Mandatory Regulatory oversight) We were told AB Government will force ABfarms into enter into the 21 Century;

    5) ABFarm workers must have the right to organize into unions... as previous union exemption organizing rules are unethical/unconstitutional...

    Felt like The ABGov. Riot Act has been read to farmers.

    AB Farms will change.

    Don't cross/object to the ABNDMinisters. (insinuation: You know what will happen if you do)

      Wait you now have a NDP Gov that will make the crooked Conservatives look like Alter Boys. No Priest jokes.
      The Unions will run the show and what a show it will be.
      See some times when you don't like some thing and change like a piece of equipment if it doesn't work out you can always go back.
      Ah your change is in place for Four years and They can F$%K up a province real fast. Ontario Nova scotia and Man and once Sask.

        Alberta is now ran by downtown Edmonton.
        That is how we joined those other provinces.
        Get used to a lot more "regulation".

          This 4 year socialist experiment for Alberta could be four VERY long years.

            As I used to say here in Saskatchewan, when we elect socialist governments, expect socialism.
            Can remember hey dey of CCF when political scientists used to wonder why there was so much support for agrarian socialism.
            Still some remnants but unions, and particularly public service ones, seem to be where support is.

              I think you guys are over reacting.

              It's the beaucrats that have everything ****ed up.

              Until we get politicians telling them what to do instead of beaucrats telling politicians what to do - it really won't matter what party is in.

              Provincially or federally.

                SF3,

                I hope you are wrong. If Common Sense can bring about some revisions... that would help. For the vast majority of farms, we operate safe now... and pay fair wages. So it will be said then regulation will not cause problems!

                the Hard part is... this is a state of mind... and unless the ND Ministers direct OH/S and senior gov people to find practical resolutions that reduce regulatory burden... it costs and growers have no alternatives but bare the cost... as we cannot pass any cost along.

                  Tom, you're not mentioning the changes that will involve children living on family farms! Leftist have been talking for years about regulating kids that help out with chores. They have plenty of ideas about when "your" kids are ready to operate equipment, that professionals should be training them, and not their "farmer dad". You'll need to provide more safety training and supply safety equipment, even a mask for your kids to gather eggs as they may breath in dust from the chicken house.

                  Hey Albertans!!! WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THEY'RE ONLY GOING TO BE IN POWER FOR 4 YEARS!!! Once they set their hooks in, good luck getting them OUT! NDP pols and admin types are coming to your province from all over the country, and they are salivating. They now have the Golden Goose, and if you think they're going to give it up so easily after 4 years you better think again. Even if the right unites, good luck. Wait till they do redistricting for the ridings before the next election. Rural constituencies will be amalgamated and city seats will be added.

                    Boarder, this fellow told us this isn't so (about young farm people and doing chores) but I have the indication he was sugar coating the pill. If it happens in Sask. when they have NO OH/S technical regs... wow Ab will be much more regulated than SK in a few years... if the top regulators get there way. No one should be surprised... these gov servants have been waiting years to bring the hammer down!!! The Minister needs to reign them in and go for practical solutions.!!!

                      Somehow you people conveniently forget the regulation by the @#$%& PC government where the power over your land and property was in the hands of the dictatorial Cabinet with NO JUDICIAL oversight. I guess that was okay though...that wasn't the NDP.

                      You're squawking already and there have been NO changes in law...just discussions of possible changes in Labour regulations to correct some current exemptions granted to Agriculture.

                        They have been in power for a couple of months as compared to your PC's who were 44 years. Haven't even given them a chance. The voter's of Alberta have just spoken. The recent poll indicates the Premier has a 53% approval rating, second highest in Canada. You all sound like a bunch of whiners to say the least. Is it any wonder a lot of fellow Canadians call us farmers whiners

                        Of coarse the biggest whiner of all is TOM4CWB, no surprise there!!!

                        That's all he ever does is bitch and complain, never statisfied, but yet wants everybody else to be happy and cheery.

                          These decisions were made before the current gov was elected.....but if you are against them, everything will be their fault........

                            Same in saskatchewan. Wall can take credit for the potash expansion but **** you guys think they were not talking prior to wall winning?

                            He might have used some incentives to finalize the deal but he shouldn't take all the credit.

                            Otherwise he has to own the pending disaster in saskatchewan as well. I don't think his shoulders are that big. He will sluff it off to mother nature. Same with harper.

                              i have no idea what was or was not in the works
                              before the election.

                              and there is always a danger that do-gooders , can mess things up and cost everyone $.

                              but

                              it is not like the federal conservatives have not
                              cost farmers billions in the railway mess.
                              and millions more future seed costs by bowing to their corporate masters dictates.

                              and in Alberta. provincially squandering or never collecting multi billions in oil revenue.

                              the new guys ,will have to screw up a whole lot for a long time to get anywhere close.
