Mcool hasn't been sorted out yet with the senate trying to find a face saving way out including voluntary labeling. From a couple of things I have read, not a big change short term. Many plants will remain US only based on established processes. Other factors are likely to be more important short term than mcool policy or lack thereof. Manitoba may be slightly different given your distance to feedlots south versus west.

U.S.appears swimming in pork in cool storage. This will likely keep a cap on our hog bids through summer. Impact of cheap corn being fed through livestock.

Hmmmm...... $5 feed barley or the malt lottery with a pittance of a premium. Should be lots of light, thin, high protien barley to make beer with this year.

caseih, yes are so right. But these are totally different markets. With milling wheat, you are battling a huge global price war with countries needing foreign currency badly. Remember, CDN wheat values are directly influenced by competition from the likes of India and Russia.
Barley is used as fuel for a rich man's food . . . Red meat. North Americans have been willing to cough-up 35 to 45 for a steak dinner.
Agree, huge inequities, but much different wealth target. The equalizer however is weather and financial markets. Wheat prices will recover albeit slowly as global debt will overhang values.
Barley is riding the wave of huge cattle feeding margins over the past two years. Expensive feeders are now being fed expensive feed. Not a good combo right now.
