Hmmmm...... $5 feed barley or the malt lottery with a pittance of a premium. Should be lots of light, thin, high protien barley to make beer with this year.

caseih, yes are so right. But these are totally different markets. With milling wheat, you are battling a huge global price war with countries needing foreign currency badly. Remember, CDN wheat values are directly influenced by competition from the likes of India and Russia.
Barley is used as fuel for a rich man's food . . . Red meat. North Americans have been willing to cough-up 35 to 45 for a steak dinner.
Agree, huge inequities, but much different wealth target. The equalizer however is weather and financial markets. Wheat prices will recover albeit slowly as global debt will overhang values.
Barley is riding the wave of huge cattle feeding margins over the past two years. Expensive feeders are now being fed expensive feed. Not a good combo right now.

well that's what we heard about canola about a month ago , to much soybean , look how that turned out ? anyway , can't grow it for that price
