Geez that seems like alot of money for companies like limagrain and canterra seeds to gave access to.

Wonder why they are not committed to having the primary producer stay in business after trying some of these top notch genetics that still fail without rain.

I digress back to the seed companies lottery win. Find it funny that they need money, but the primary producer, who ultimately buys these overpriced taxpayer funded top notch genetics with 100 year patents, are told there are programs in place and to use up savings from the good years.

I think the first thing would be no more money for industry. Let's see how they perform with drought funding.

See how their businesses survive when the tap turns off or the variety they develop is a dud or ****s up a market and they are left holding the cost of making it right.

There isn't one new variety of wheat that is outperforming anything from 20 years ago. And yet the industry is continuing on a steady drip from government.

All these varieties depend on farmers to pour the groceries to them and a big help from mother nature.

Or else we we wouldn't be having a production only slightly higher than 1988. And figuring it was 50/50 and less groceries.

I ask for my check off money back , they develop better varieties in little North Dakota , just more welfare in Canada ,lots place in Canada to do very little and get good pay check from government . If I know this when I was 20 , I could of being retired 7 years ago with pension and lot less pressure .

Our best varieties were developed locally at the Swift Current Research station.
But this gov't is slowly Starving the PUBLC research facilities but no end to help for Private or Regulations to Empower them. Mulroney would be envious

More corporate welfare. Wheat is in surplus every where so it is the last thing that needs to be researched. If this funding with the check offs produced public varieties that compete then there could be some purpose but this is pure waste.
