more money for who. ? ?

The Harper Government remains strongly committed to made-in-Canada wheat research, working with industry and academia through the $25 million wheat research cluster and a $97 million contribution to the Canadian Wheat Strategic Alliance.

Geez that seems like alot of money for companies like limagrain and canterra seeds to gave access to.

Wonder why they are not committed to having the primary producer stay in business after trying some of these top notch genetics that still fail without rain.

What happens to our check off funds? I thought they went to fund these outfits.

Could make a case for double dipping from the government and the check off funds I suppose.

Sort of like sending a drought payment for temporary relief and receiving the rest thru agristabilty.

They had agri recovery but must have shitcan that for budget purposes.

I digress back to the seed companies lottery win. Find it funny that they need money, but the primary producer, who ultimately buys these overpriced taxpayer funded top notch genetics with 100 year patents, are told there are programs in place and to use up savings from the good years.

Seed companies don't hear that line just .....how much do you need.

They're being put on welfare/life support until they become "self sufficient" under the new rules...

AAFC dollars need to matched by industry industry dollars 50:50. Check off funds most likely used to leverage the AAFC funds.

And the seed companies customers re mortgage their farms for next year's seed?

            What a great deal hey?

Seed companies subsidized for the good of ag and turned into succesful companies with government money but farmers left as peasants.

Bucket. The sask wheat commission elections are coming soon. Why don't you run for a seat? You can help change everything you don't like and talk about on here

I honestly don't think I could fix what's ****ed up.

Wish the guys that ****ed it up would at the very least accept responsibility instead of asking someone else to clean up their ****ing mess.

It would be a start to understanding how ****ing stupid our regulators and politicians are.

I think the first thing would be no more money for industry. Let's see how they perform with drought funding.

See how their businesses survive when the tap turns off or the variety they develop is a dud or ****s up a market and they are left holding the cost of making it right.

There isn't one new variety of wheat that is outperforming anything from 20 years ago. And yet the industry is continuing on a steady drip from government.

All these varieties depend on farmers to pour the groceries to them and a big help from mother nature.

Or else we we wouldn't be having a production only slightly higher than 1988. And figuring it was 50/50 and less groceries.

Where the audit on the value of the money spent.

I ask for my check off money back , they develop better varieties in little North Dakota , just more welfare in Canada ,lots place in Canada to do very little and get good pay check from government . If I know this when I was 20 , I could of being retired 7 years ago with pension and lot less pressure .

Our best varieties were developed locally at the Swift Current Research station.
But this gov't is slowly Starving the PUBLC research facilities but no end to help for Private or Regulations to Empower them. Mulroney would be envious

Pretty tough for me to see it as private breeding when they are on the government tit.

Just seems like place to create board seats for dog**** politicians.

More corporate welfare. Wheat is in surplus every where so it is the last thing that needs to be researched. If this funding with the check offs produced public varieties that compete then there could be some purpose but this is pure waste.
