    Who got hail?

Some on Facebook and Twitter reporting hail out of yesterday's storm.
Hail is awful as it wipes out most time 100% of potential and leaves you with 10 to 60% payout that just doesn't cut it.
Basket for crop insurance and you get **** all.
Worst we ever had was 21 quarter taken on a early July storm. Not fun.

In 2001 we were hailed 100% on July 7 and again 100% on July 14. It was cut and baled. Sold for $50/ton. Wheat tried to kinda stand up, but no heads left. Hail insurance paid 100%. Good company-Canadian. Other not so good. You all know who that is. Oh, yeh, hailed again in 2002. Ugly mess, about 70%. By year two, there were a FEW weeds.

Several years in the last decade we were hailed out the equivalent of 100% on 30 to 50% of our acres.

Two years ago we had five storms and every time they came to adjust we had new damage so they would wait a couple weeks. The first storm was in late June and we were swathing the canola and it still hadn't been adjusted.

I had two adjusters, the storm boss and the corner boss in the field walking around saying "I don't know how to adjust this". I was persistent and got a good adjustment.

Two companies I won't use are coop and Wray. The ****er that took Wray over in the early 90's is one guy that I would love to go all cottonpicken on.

Municipal had given me a higher adjustment by 20%. So I wouldn't sign off on Wray. Without telling me he met the municipal guys in the field and tried to get them to drop their adjustment. Municipal guys phoned and told me because they weren't comfortable being there without me. I think the same company owns Wray, Henderson and Rain and Hail.

Municipal has been good to me.

In 1998 my grandpa told me I was waisting my money on hail insurance hadn't had a major hail storm since 1925. The next year I didn't buy any and was hailed out 100%. That was not a wise decision. Too bad he passed away during seeding and missed out on such a huge loss.

Know of a farm that had not had significant hail loss for forty years and then was hailed out two years in a row.
Larger and more spread out farms are better able to handle hail risk without insurance.

Typically when we get hail the extra moisture around the hail storm is of more benefit. probably had more damage from 6 inch rains. true we are still due for major frost.

From past adjustments on 3 different years of last 7. Between line companies and municipal. Lines are first out to the fields, and municipal takes longer but I find municipal way easier to deal with. The big line company left a bad taste in my mouth on 2 different occasions so it's balls deep in municipal now and top up with others if needed. Similar adjustments in the end though. It's just that the line adjusters seem to buy into their companies umbrella ceo at the Christmas party a little too much and think they know farming after retiring from 25 years at junior high.
