Up at 5AM every day. In winter sometimes sleep in until 6. The first hour always was and still is mine. At seeding and spraying used to be 4. Never was one for working late into the night. When you are a one man show too much to do in morning to work really late.

4:30 I am a light sleeper. Time changes are a bugger when I travel. But by 10 I am finished.
Read for first hour and have my coffee then its off to the farm stop at Tim's drive through. Why we waste that awesome time in summer when the sun is up so early gets me. Time change in this province would be so great.

I used to get up earlier than I do now. I also worked harder than I do now. I would rather work with the sun than with equipment lights, harvest is the exception. I'm running out of gas, physically and emotionally. If I were is a regular job, I'd have my "years of service in", or damn close!!!! Greece here I come.

In spring and summer I'm generally up at 4:30. In calving and seeding, I just go, then deal with breakfast after some time.
Once late fall/winter comes I slip back to 5:30-6:00 rising.
I don't set an alarm. It just happens.
Like Allis though, I do find time through the day for myself (reflection, reading, exercise, etc).

Tweety, for me 10 pm is often bedtime. There are exceptions of course. If we're seeding and rain is coming we'll do crazy things like seed to the early hours or even all night. Harvest hours can be the exception. Also, I won't deny I like a 10 minute nap after lunch. That's not an everyday thing though.
Sleep/wake is just a rhythm thing.
My son is on a different rhythm than me. He likes working late. Right now it's kind of our "unfair advantage".

Tweety, that is a very good question. Installed and serviced sat dish's years ago, and neighbor down road aways always was up at 4-4.30. Went one night in summer to fix his dish at 8 and his wife said he was in bed. Usually goes between 8-8.30 if not in field. Thought to myself, no wonder up at 4, that is eight hours of sleep. Brag about the guy that gets up at 4 and goes to bed at eleven or so.

Braveheart, your son's "rhythm" may have more to do with his age and having his partner in bed with him!!! ;-)

Haha, that's not the case here. Their relationship isn't there yet.
No, he gets up no matter when called. Unlike me, he needs an alarm.
