Sum dum. Noticed the same thing. I assume denitrification/leaching?

      Actually no.

We have handheld tissue/soil test meters.. The N levels in the plant isn't the problem it's the salinity of the ground.

we had one quarter next to hopper that had an extremely high water table due to a mega slough... When it dropped and all the potholes dried up we seeded it end to end but put 100 lbs an ac of elemental s with the seed.... very uniform stand all the way thru all the wet spots. The fields that didn't get this treatment look thinner and poorer around sloughs and thru old dried out wet spots.

Agree with Kluase - go for a long drive - 80% of the latest rains wre far too late - JMO

I think we are talking about different things here. We have no salinity on the land I am taking about, just lowish spots that drowned a bit in my peas last year that always were seeded and grew somthing, even in the wet years, with the exception of the unseeded years.

I know what you mean re salinity though, but we have very non saline land especially in the spots I am meaning.

          You miss the hail klause?

Free take some ph paper out there and check today if there's water standing.

you'll be surprised... salinity can rear it's head in ugly places and unusual ways.

We missed all the hail but the rain can go to he'll now. Over 4 inches at the house. I think down around Hopper they got less... my beans are standing in water today.

Klause, are you taking salinity or alkalinity? Your sulfur trick will work on alkali land but salts are a little trickier to deal with.
