    Friday Crop Report! on Thursday!

Well what a week, On Sunday we lost one of our own on this web site. RIP Hopper! Rains seem to move from west to east but still seem to miss some guys. Hail is starting to pick up but nothing major yet and finally a new Farm show was born this week hopefully it is well attended so it can continue. Your never to old to learn something new. Funny thing Sundays event got me to thinking that it is only a fricking farm and life is to short so I spent this week doing things with my youngest son all week what ever he wanted to do or learn, It was one fun week.
So for our area it was a week of showers for a total of close to thee inches. Sad part were back to full ground moisture almost, as water is pooling now and some spots are not going to produce any crop due to, Yes Flooding!
So here is the Friday crop report.
Hrs. we finished the last fields of Prosario on Friday before the first wave of rain again on the weekend. Crop is looking very good with early fields filling on average 6 to 8 rows and 15 to 16 spikelet's. I seed some later varieties so heat is what I need to push this crop along. My newer earlier varieties are filling very nice. Some lodging taking place as wind was present with one storm.
Peas are all now in shut down mode and I think if the weekends forecast comes into play maybe Monday to Friday next week we will start to desiccate the first fields. They podded well on the later fields the first fields hit flowering in the week I missed one rain event. So far they are standing nice.
Barley is now fully headed and will be tall this year. Heads are similar to last year and look to fill nice as we have abundant moisture. Some lodging is taking place. Guys with early barley the head is drooping as a sign its filling well. Color change is only just starting.
Canola is finally just shutting down on my Early seeded RR variety. I think DuPont's new one will win. Stands nice and flowered long. The Pioneer some the big rain and wind event on Friday twisted and lodged. Liberty is going strong but showing signs of shutting down. By next Friday all will be done flowering. Tall crop with good pod development. Funny might not be our largest yielding year ever but so far each field will have similar results across the board.
Oats has come a long way since seeding and now is looking better still not our largest yielder ever but will have good results.
Soy has been blooming for little over a week and only thing I could of done different is do another RR app in July as some weeds have showed up. Nothing major but not a totally clean field. Their tall so first pod looks to be above the cut line.
Flax in the area is not as good as last year but fields are filling in.
Corn is almost at height of shoulder.
Hay and pasture is doing real good as some will now get a good second cut.
Durum in area has smaller heads than usual but will fill nice. Early seeded and early dry must have set size before the rain.
So only major thin on the crop report is we are approaching full on the moisture front and again one big big storm away for a harvest shit show of mud and being stuck. Yield will be above the trend line but not at the level of 2002 before the frost.
Bring on the heat and lets get this one in the bin.
Again its only a farm that all who supply ship and resell will make out the best leaving you Mr. farmer with the scraps. So hug your wife, child, friend or neighbour as life is way to short to worry about useless shit.
Be safe and have a great week.

"Sad part we are back to full ground moisture". Seriously how can you make a comment like that???? Have you not noticed on your tours most would give their you know what to be in the situation you are?? You always say "it's only a crop blah blah blah, maybe next time reserve some comments like these.
For the most part I enjoy your report but stuff like this pisses me off, as well as others I'm sure.

Big I wasn't rubbing any salt on wounds if I did Im sorry. What I was trying to get out in this report is some areas are back to full moisture situation again. Yes its good for next year and finishing this crop off but I thought it was worth mentioning because it will effect yield in our area if we cant get some parts harvested due to excess water.
Again not trying to offend any one because hell from what I have witnessed on my drives is a nice general rain is needed over all areas or NEXT Year will make for some very serious conditions if the pattern continues. We still live on the prairies where mother nature gives and takes away just as fast.

A lot will be looking for huge rains this fall as well as snow to recharge moisture levels. Where you live you very seldom miss a rain no matter the time of yr, be thankfull for that.

Your correct the spring rains came over long lake from Edmonton and then dropped to the valley and stated up. Once the blocker moved it gave way to Montana lows which for us are the big rain events that start at Regina and move NE.

It is really something to watch those clouds head for your area and repeatedly miss other regions. This year will go down on our calendar as "spotty shower year".

No problem SF3, just tell it like it is. If some guys don't like it, they can move to the next thread. The fact remains, this year will just be history soon and you'll be wearing your semi out - we not so much. LOL long as we're safe and healthy, all's good.

We get our rains from Montana, buy they wouldn't come up over the border, maybe they didn't have a passport or something. Ours came from basic heavy showers out of know where. I'm very thankful for every drop we got this yr. Crop isn't what we've had in past 5 yrs but pleased at what will be out there, considering the situation.

.65 last night at supper time. A wee bit of large hail too. Probably won't even bother the adjusters with a Straight 10% deductible.

Yesterday, about 7:00 Farmaholic? It looked pretty socked in east of Regina. We're still a little short just east of Regina. This city is blocking, I think.

Hail in central Ab tues night... some guys 100 percent gone said no combine needed this year... knocked out house sky lights and recked vehicles. small percent of acres... hope they had good insurance.

Rain was welcome. Later seeded canola is in heaven. Early crops will be VERY early this year. Weed control a challenge on them... no height... no competition... late flush of weeds now breaking through on early crops. Early crops 50 percent of normal o average perhaps... late crops likely to be average is what it looks like. Seeding in April here can be a disaster... this year tells the story why!

Tom, I don't think waiting to seed here would have helped much. There was a net drying effect, at least all our crop came up but a lack of moisture during the growing season really held it back.

You never know what the future holds.

Look at the animated satellite this morning. Environment Canada took off the 60% chance of rain from the forecast. Seems odd to me, but there can be a lot of cloud and no rain falls, so. We still have blooming lentils and podding Canola. Mid August is 3 weeks away, better hurry up!

Seeding in April can be a wreck in my area 30% of the time as well , but seeding after the 28th of May can be far worse 80% of the time . Every area has a prime seeding window of 12-15 days and that can change year to year as too what 12-15 days lol

SF3 - Is it the Dupont 3155C that is your best RR canola?
I did consider that at one time but ended up going with DeKalb 74-44, 73-45 and Nexera 1012

From what I see this Dupont variety is looking good wherever I see it.

Also I believe the CWB is releasing the results of their fairly extensive prairie province crop tour.

What a week. Haying is done. Whew! Tonnage was not bad. We'll see later about quality. It was fairly mature, but we baled 80% of it with no rain.

Soybeans just look amazing. They're loaded with flowers and pods forming. We tried some Radiate, a hormone treatment on them. I'm hoping it will boost yield. Or, they'll just turn into Caitlin Jenner

Canola looks fantastic. It's a little uneven in maturity thanks to Jack Frost, at least on some fields. But we're still happy we left most of them and didn't reseed. The field we did reseed is really catching up. We tried 40 acres of Radiate on the canola and when you dig up plants, the "Radiated" plot has literally twice the roots of on treated. We'll see if that brings on more yield.

Wheat also looks fantastic. I've noticed some neighbours fields (Harvest variety) are showing a lot of fusarium damage eg. dead heads and parts of heads. We have one field of Cardale showing wheat stem maggot, but not much yet.

Barley is really turning and seems nicely filled. It's a nice crop and we're hoping for some good harvest weather as it's malt.

Annual ryegrass likely ready to swath next week. It's a nice stand, and passed inspection, but is quite weedy this year.
