I am assuming this is long ago planned and budgeted for funds. This is not new stuff being announced. Stuff like when Paul Martin all of a sudden promised they would ban guns.

Again, money has been being spent all along, if one was watching. Ministers out and about getting face time with their big announcements is not a sudden and recent phenomenon.

And finally, unless you were hiding under a rock somewhere in Croatia, we all knew an election would be happening in early October. Called a fixed election date. Everyone knew about it. No more pulling the trigger according to polls. No more delaying for a full five years, hoping to turn things around.

I like the fixed election date. It really should not be a surprise. Heck, I heard a communist, I mean ndp candidate on the radio today say he was, get this, " shocked". Shocked? What? Why would one be shocked there would be an election, on a date set long ago? Just plain weird. lol

Do you need a list of the positive things this government has done? A bit of a reminder, perhaps. Maybe your head has been stuck so far into the post office box, waiting for a subsidy from the government for so long, that you have missed the last several years, and maybe need to be brought up to speed on the many good things this government has brought forth?

Maybe you are expecting an interim payment from the wonderful CWB still? lol

Nothing more to my story than living within my means and diversifying.

Frugality is fun, and my reason I am still on the land.

I do look forward to user fees for health care.

Riders2010 I am curious how you envision a NDP or Liberal government building a better Canada. Realistically government holds the power of taxation and then is responsible for determining how it is spent. It cannot create wealth, it can redistribute wealth to a limited extent through taxation policies.
The unfortunate problem with overly zealous progressive policies is they create a level of spending that cannot be supported without onerous levels of taxation. So what happens in a democracy is they go into debt in ever increasing amounts to support their policies. The end result is situation like Greece where taxes are increased to pay the debt and government programs are gutted. Who ends up paying? Future generations with high youth unemployment and a large inherited debt.
I am not a fan of corporate welfare or of the rich controlling the politicians like in the US. What I would like to see is a positive vision from government that creates an environment for economic growth, only growth will allow the spending required to raise the quality of life of our less fortunate without sacrificing our kids futures with increasing debt and taxation. Unfortunately no such political entity exists in Canada today.

                Hamloc,

How DARE you confuse these lefties with the truth! They can't handle the truth... must distort actual reality like:

TOYOTA... the $58M Feds are putting in... is a repayable LOAN. Ontario Lbs on the other hand... well read it and you tell me... who is giving Toyota $42Mcash... THE LIBERALS.

"TORONTO - The federal and provincial governments will provide financial assistance to help expand Toyota's manufacturing operations in southern Ontario.

The two governments will provide a total of $100 million towards Toyota's planned $421 million investment in the automaker's Cambridge operations.

The Canadian Press has learned the provincial Liberal government will give Toyota a grant of up to $42.1 million, or 10% of the project's cost."

I googled... this was in the Toronto Sun:

                THE CANADIAN PRESS

Greybeard. You hit the nail on the head.Harper surrounds himself with puppets.Anyone with an opinion will never get anywhere in the party.A good leader surrounds himself with great people.Harper just gave a supreme court spot to a buddy.Harpers judgement record has been horrible. That is why the whole political system everyone is sick of and wants some serious change. And the boogie man will not appear if Voters want change. Canada needs and wants a pitiless correction.

                    Tom

If a farmer buys new equipment does he get both provincial and federal matching loans?

If toyota needs the money to pay back the loan they just jack the price up on a new car.

The auto industry doesn't need government money. Repayable or not.
