Horse I never said we were dry and it was bad! I did say we're back to normal and water is going away! We have nice crops on their way. Actually some really nice crops! So yes three more dry years and everything will be back to normal!

Drove highway 40 going east of North Battleford. I noticed the casino is getting new asphalt parking lot.
Just leaving the city the crops are turning gold especially the wheat and peas. Very near the city there was a short little crop oats, i doubt they will make 40 bu/acre. The sprayers will be rolling there soon.
Between NB and Hafford there must be a thousand acres of hemp planted! It looks really good. I have never seen so much hemp in one place!

While everyone else was receiving inches of rain last weekend, our area had 1-2mm. Crops turning hard and fast. 80 percent of peas are sprayed or are being swathed. Rye half combined, winter wheat crop has a good start coming off already. Early spring wheat crop nearly all turned, some fields being sprayed. Some canola fields starting to turn and might be as close as a week from swathing.
Sure could have used an inch of rain last weekend to finish everything, guess we're gonna have to rely on our plentiful reserves. All surface water on cultivated land is now gone, finally after five years. Water in grass sloughs is down greatly.
In away, happy to have the lower humidity, not looking for rain now, that window pasted last weekend. We're in that exciting time of year, when you don't think you can get your equipment serviced fast enough, cause the crop is coming! Everyone is horny to go, lets get'er done! SESK

I am not seeing a spending spree. Only those who do not pay attention for the last three years, think that there is a sudden burst of spending, when in reality, the announcements and spending, have been going on all the time. It is simply that the media makes the current announcements a bigger deal than they are, due to timing. Ministers et al are always on the road making pledges and announcing this or that.

I guess I pay attention, so I do not see it the same way as those who do not watch politics daily.

Take the boosted kid payments. THe government said all along that once they get back to balanced budgets, they would boost it. This is not new, but rather than a fulfilled promise, it gets spun into "new money" for electioneering.

Riders. Counties declare ag disaster to free up programs and funding. This time cattle related mostly. Tax deferrals on sales for ex. And the counties that declared it had reason.

The best thing Feds can do... is slow down the eco enviro wildlife turn the clock back 200 year 100 mile radicals. ND and Libs seem to have swallowed this Ducks etel USenviroterror hook line and sinker.
They want folks to live in the middle of our farms with wetlands deer moose etc in 5 story condo's and walk to work. What a warped weird world in Canada we are headed for!

Didn't you know... our food is being produced on ND/Lib virtual farms on the internet! Just fire up the game boy and grow a pizza... will appear in the micro after pushing instant minute!!!

We have lost contact with Common Sense... which is why my MP spends most of the time wasting his time.

MP Benoit spent years working on forcing big Auto to release repair info to small shops... looks like he succeeded now trying for farm equip.

You folks have no idea how messed up Ottawa is. Changing a light bulb requires a university degree and belonging to the right union. I hate to think what will happen to the civil service if Mulcair/Justin win...

Tom the social license of food production is not well understood I agree but it goes deeper than this.

Heard a comment the other day: Ag Labour shortage could be solved by just paying more for workers: apparently an well held view held by bureaucrats in Ottawa.

Of course that was before Ag was the only stable employer in the west...It is our challenge to define solutions in the new status we have with policy makers as a valuable industry now apparent, with the decline of oil.

The real issue is in learning to tell our story, to the right people, not just preaching to the converted.

Don't know about your region Horse but I always thought AB Ag used the craziest groupings of regions in these reports. Our area was "Airdrie, Rimbey, Coronation, Oyen" Pairing up one of the highest precipitation areas in the province with one of the driest. Conditions at Oyen will almost never be the same as they are at Rimbey.
