Sounds like we have a Pharisee on board... "but if you are, you can't work on Sunday."

Last I checked... the two great commandments were: To Love God; and to Love our neighbour as ourselves which is representative of the first.

No specific day specified.... no judgement of others needed... only of our OWN motivations. New covenant... fulfilling the true intents behind the first rules.

You would not feed your animals... or your family; on your 'specified Sabbath Day??? According to Mathew 12... doing good was the test for what could be done... and it matters not which day... all are equal.

But I guess Jesus is/was not 'religious' so his teaching does not count...

We are also told to be good stewards of what we have been given. If that means harvesting on Sunday then we harvest on Sunday. As long as one doesn't forget where all these good gifts come from. The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.

Tom so your one of those I follow the New Testament because that's more convenient for me types. Now there is only 2 commandments. Must have missed the memo. If religion is true then there shouldn't be such a wide variety of interpretations. Almost an oxymoron when people jitter prey an absolute truth isn't it Tom. Feeding your cows and your family is absolutely not the same as combining on Sunday. Nice try Tom. Justify away

Again you missed the point!

Jesus was pointing out that All days are the 'Lords Day'. If you must be legalistic.... the 'Sabbath' is Saturday not Sunday. Doing good IS the point... being loving no matter what day it is. Do unto others as you would have others do unto ourselves.

Your legalistic theory does not work... preachers and priests should not work on the Sabbath either... which is where the Pharisee religion leads... Crucify the one doing good. The law is simply here to show us being merciful and loving... doing good... is not a law/rules... it is simply a state of mind to be caring. I don't 'require' folks working with us to help on Sunday... but if they want to help I need to give them the opportunity to do good and help!

Many hands make work fun... especially for those who are motivated my kind thoughts and loving actions! Every day of the week. This is especially meant for me... when I get grumpy!!!

Wow Tom. Never heard such drivel in my life. Sure take Saturday then but it's still 1 day a week you need to rest. Spelled out quite explicitly many times in the bible. Even says man servant or maid servant. If you think them working for you is doing good works then you are delusional. I just love the hypocrosy of so many religious people. Especially religious fanatics like Tom. Love the preacher talk and evrything. The rich part is you call me a Pharisee! Kind of pathetic Tom

The Law never saved any one. It is just here to show us how short we are in measure and motivation.

Tom, good points in your above posts re God and love, for God is indeed love.

Regarding not working on the Sabbath, while the idea is wrapped up as God's Law, really I see it as a concept to keep society balanced and productive. Taking a regular break from work helps people be more productive, allows time for family, and can be just good for the spirit.

I really don't want to get within a mile of this argument but I discovered something interesting one time while discussing this very topic. If you read the commandment you will see that it specifies certain people who can not work on the Sabbath. How ever it noticeably does not exclude your wife................. (you didn't get that from me!!).

Remember my grandfather's comment on working on Sunday, and he never did... " If you can't get your work done in 6 days, you will not get done in 7 either."
