interesting thread re forward selling.
we had a spike three weeks ago forwards rose to 312 per tonne we did another parcel taking us up to 20% forward sold.
I will never sell more than 30% forward and only if the numbers add up basically 305 plus is a sell.
one year we did 50% across the year yeields turned bad due to frost but prices collapsed that year due to massive world crop was 245 at harvest I had two choices buy wheat and fill contracts or sell contracts to neighbours friends which is what I did for $15 per tonne wasn't the end of the world not being able to deliver. and we we talking a few hundred tonne.
guess here in aust its been standard marketing procedure for 20 plus year 30% forward when time is right, ive sold new crop plenty of times before weve even started planting.
