I just want these people to tell me this, If we punish the living crap out of Canadian society to meet some made up number of "carbon" emissions, how will that affect my grandchildrens future? What do they want the future temperature to be? I would think Canada would be quite better with a higher average temperature no? Is there a perfect temperature that we can get to?

With the reduction in hours on tractors by the change on farm practices such as no till and larger equipment haven't we already reduced emissions more than any tier 4 engine?

Obviously the conservative farmers sitting in Ottawa can't figure it out.

Next question ....

If we put 75 percent of the truck traffic back on rail there would also be less environmental issues with more efficient logistics?

Rail is the most efficient way of moving bulk goods and they ignore the opportunity.

Canada has no control over emissions specs. That is all dictated by California and the USA. I'm not sure why a combine that is used 2 weeks a year needs to have the same emissions equipment as highway tractors that run 365 days a year. Will we even run internal combustion engines in 40 years?

Whether you agree that climate change is happening or not, and whether it might be man made or not, we all have a responsibility for the sustainability of the people on this planet.
How can we continue as we are post "peak oil" with fracking being a good example of the increasingly desperate means being pursued to perpetuate our hydrocarbon addiction?

You missed the point on EU/N American Tier 4 emissions controls... THEY REDUCE PARTICULATE SIZE AND N0X ON DIESEL ENGINES. This is primarily about AIR POLLUTION... not fuel efficiency... as our JD combines pre-2008 prove... they burn LESS fuel than new machines.

This was put into law long before 2006 when PM Harper started; and the 2011 election when they got a Majority in Ottawa.

1998 Regulation
At the time of signing the 1998 rule, the EPA estimated that by 2010 NOx emissions would be reduced by about a million tons per year, the equivalent of taking 35 million passenger cars off the road.

The costs of meeting the emission standards were expected to add under 1% to the purchase price of typical new nonroad diesel equipment, although for some equipment the standards may cause price increases on the order of 2-3%. The program was expected to cost about $600 per ton of NOx reduced.

Tier 4 Regulation
When the full inventory of older nonroad engines are replaced by Tier 4 engines, annual emission reductions are estimated at 738,000 tons of NOx and 129,000 tons of PM. By 2030, 12,000 premature deaths would be prevented annually due to the implementation of the proposed standards.

The estimated costs for added emission controls for the vast majority of equipment was estimated at 1-3% as a fraction of total equipment price. For example, for a 175 hp bulldozer that costs approximately $230,000 it would cost up to $6,900 to add the advanced emission controls and to design the bulldozer to accommodate the modified engine.

EPA estimated that the average cost increase for 15 ppm S fuel would be 7 cents per gallon. This figure would be reduced to 4 cents by anticipated savings in maintenance costs due to low sulfur diesel."
