Friday Crop Report on a Thursday!

Well after the hail and rain event last Thursday then spotty rains sat and sun. We finally got going yesterday on the barley. It looks nice plump kernels but didn't live up to my dream of the ultimate barley crop. Its nice but no over the top do the happy dance wo ho.
I'm thankful for a decent yield.
    So lets start.
Barley. Half our barley is in the bin. Its later than some so I'm thinking it was developing in the week to 10 days we missed rains in our area. Similar to early for yield but the crop didn't take barley over the top. Geese are present as little bastards are getting brave and landing as were having supper last night. So hopefully it makes malt yield was a little over our average. Need a new variety next year.
HRS all ours is desiccated and almost at the two week mark. I spread out spraying so today later we will be starting our seed wheat fields for 2016. Interesting to see how they turn out. Most that swath HRS last night were going hard as ducks are becoming a issue also. Also if it does rain like they say they don't want any thing on the ground except Canola to rot.
Early yield results are good to excellent.
Canola is just about 95% swath in our area. Lots are going to be trying some strait cut. Our test plots show from initial viewing that the L140P might have to be replaced with a new 46 M34 Harvest MAx as way thicker. Weigh wagon will tell. 40 acres each side by side similar fertility disease etc. One field that missed the rains early and then had heavy rain at flowering definitely has lower yield potential than the rest. Hail storm on Thursday last week did add to one half about 5 to 10 percent loss.
Oats is coming along some early is desiccated but most is about a week away from being ready.
Durum some swath some desiccated but one thing even the fields sprayed twice have some Fuz and will be down graded.
Soy is starting to shut down and podded probably the best I have ever seen.
Flax some guys have awesome and clean then the next is WTF. Cleavers late in year have come in so strong on some flax fields its unbelievable. Also wild oats. Then a mile away clean end to end. Did they double spray or just luck out. The big hitter for flax aren't in the top ten this year.
Sorghum is still looking ok but not as good as a USA farmer would have.
Corn looks good in our area but lots of guys didn't grow as much as usual.
Pastures and hay land are I would call excellent. No Cattle are starving, lots of grass.
So hopefully we miss the rain. Drews maps last night have us doing that for the most part. Were not the Epi center for once. Well that was yesterdays probably today the hurricane weakened in the gulf and the rain moved east.
Like I said earlier most just got going late Tuesday or Wednesday for sure was first day of all out harvest for our area every one was going big small in between.
One thing I am witnessing this year is some varieties that we pay a lot for just aren't their. Maybe that's why seed costs are to high. If its a dud it is a very expensive mistake for a farmer.
Election season will kick into high gear next week after labour day. God hope this Country doesn't go the way it is looking like it will go. For farmers this will spell more paper work and useless government assholes up your ass at every turn. And bye bye GMO back to the horse and Buggy.
So good luck harvesting and be safe, Remember its only a fricking crop and the people at home are way more important to you.

Doing pea potholes today, then maybe go help buddy get his wheat off before the weather change. 90% of hrs done all #1 good pro. Some canola done, the rest is only been down 8 days , but was close last night.
Started swathing the 43E03 yesterday that was reseeded - it matured very well and looks good.
Start v/tilling the pea stubble today - time to chew er up.
Combines in high gear all around now trying to get whatever cereals that are ready off before rains come again.

We're plugging along. Lentils done, all dry and fine. 200 acres Canola combined about 6% moisture. Yield mid-range. Durum grading #3 Fus, ultra- dry field plus something else going on in that field. Only 40 acres left of that 1/2 and semi will hold it. Then onto 600 acres standing wheat S of Indian Head and flax, a week from now. That's the plan, Stan.

Started standing barley yesterday. Just dry. Guys trying to get swathed stuff picked up before this next wet spell. Looks like a potential sprouting event. Lots of swathed cereals.

Barley not yielding what I thought it looked like, dang it. Quite a few water stressed spots, where it should be the best areas.

Will start swathing my super duper longgggggg season canola in or around rains.

Guys just kind of generally rolling yesterday.

Wheat ready to spray, late barley next week to spray, fabas fading from lush green to faded lime, leaves dropping a bit, the very odd black pod.

Canola generally cut except mine. Won't do that variety again unless it yields real good.

September comes, and in this area, it rains, this is not a big surprise. I just hope it does not rain too darn much.

Canola and soybeans left. We're about half done canola with great combining conditions. The Case 9230 picked up a rock, dislodged some blades and sent it up into the oil pan yesterday. But, it's a hired combine so someone else's problem this time. So much for big capacity. The CX 860 just hums along.

We are leaving a quarter of L140 to straight cut. We'll probably desiccate it with Heat LQ to even out the straw.

Soybeans are really changing. Should be a September bean harvest if all goes well.

What rain we've had has really woke up the ryegrass stubble. Re growth is coming along ad will give us some excellent late season grazing.

Ryegrass seed is already being shipped to processor and as always the cash is welcome.

              Be careful everyone.

                    S. Mb most cereals done, canola 90% done, basically beans and corn left to go. Big yields on everything. Beans could be a record yield this year, some fileds may run 55-60, Corn could run 170-180 if no frost till end of sept. Bean harvest starts 3rd wk of sept, corn on oct 10-15. Dont see any grain piles, lots of new bins went up the last 5 years. 25k bins now considered too small for some, larger farms putting up grain legs and 50k bins. Lots of field cultivation going this week, getting the land ready for next year. Although seeding conditions are perfect for winter wheat, dont see any units going. Looks like this crop is no longer in favour here. Better utility and high yielding US spring wheats replacing those acres. Fall fertilzer starts in 5 or 6 weeks.

After the wreck of peas the durum was better than I thought.really nice looking sample.Got flax left a some more durum yet.Hit the 70% done.surprised how many nice sloughs to cut for hay. Will be nice to cut them before frost kills hay .with the rain coming pulled into a 45 bushel durum crop yesterday and rolled out as much grain as possible.Wife trucked 3 miles home with a 3 ton and dumped into tandem when she could not make it back.what started out to look like a rainy day ended up to be the best day yet harvesting thanks to my trucker.
