    Winter Wheat

Hear that some growers are abandoning winter wheat in favour of high yielding spring varieties.
We are giving it at least one more year.
Used to blame wheat board for discounting winter wheat excessively in comparison with spring but see some of same with end of monopoly.
Hard to put a value on spreading out demand on equipment, it has been a big plus for winter cereals on our farm.
On the negative side, we have gone from being Ducks Unlimited supporters to critics with its entry into debate on drainage policy.

Ducks unlimited is the worst manager of water I have seen.

The pfra had a vision 50 years ago that no longer exists.

DU couldn't plan a two man rush on a three hole shitter.

Do not see why, with U.S. states talking of building fences along the border, that we should bear full cost of preserving wetlands.
Let them do more in North Dakota and Minnesota.

Agree with you hopalong, DU is a not the farmers friend. As for winter wheat i used to like growing it to spread out the work in spring, but larger faster seeders make this less an issue. Now, i dont have to worry about winter kill, snowmbiles, etc. Also pastuer matures about 10 days later than hrs varieties, so harvest is speead out nicely. Pastuer has outyielded winter wheat by 15 to 20 bpa last few yrs here, plus the price is better. Prosper, faller outyielded winter wheat by 10 bpa this year.

Can't be doing any good for whatever crops are still out. Or is everybody done? We've had about 1 inch here. Thinking the durum we have out will be a number 3 now.

7/10's at my yard, but it varies, sounds like brandon and winnipeg got hammered.

1.6" or 42 mm, and three more days to go...rain takes grain/$$$. After drought comes the FLOOD.
"Harvest from Hell", coming to a field near me.
