Working pea stubble with 330 turbo till
Just tried the tow between tank set up to see how it pulls and turns . Worked great . Now just gotta put air kit on the 330tt and start putting on 21-0-0-24 at around 100 lbs for next years canola .
The blackened pea stubble saved most of our canola from freezing last May .

Isn't it a bit early to be fertilizing for next year?

If you have 24 lbs of S down, by the time you've used the 5:1 or 7:1 ration puts you at 120 to 168 pounds actual nitrogen. What ratio do you use? That's a lot of N. I realize you don't put it all down at seeding but...

No wonder I can't grow shit!!!

I think the Sunflower drill that was at the Farm Progress Show ended up at Nick's Service just east of Regina. Seen one there but didn't pay much attention. It is probably looking for a home by now, who knows what "incentives" there might be.

Not actually putting fert on yet - just trying out the set up for later .

Neighbors "swathed" their oeas sith a hay rake last year. They harvested what looked like a good crop. The shelling/loss looked to me about like seeding rate 3 bu/acre. Theyvert tilled immediately behind the combines. The peas germinated and covered all their land nice and green. Other neighbors scoffed at such a "loss" blaming the john deere combines and the rakes for shelling. They did not think that those peas were growing and fixing nitrogen for 6 weeks plus anchoring soil and trapping snow. This year they have a terrific crop of wheat. Nicest wheat for 20 mile radius.
What ever happened to spreading "fines". A small tractor with gps autosteer and a bulk spreader?

We have a guy in our area using a sunflower planter and I would say he has had some of the worst looking crops on the area. IMO you can go fast and do a good job seeding. It doesn't work. No matter if they tell you "have to" to make it work properly.

Happy - This has nothing to do with seeding fast . Actually not seeding at all.
Simply looking to add an operation while we are working pea stubble anyway . Will save time in spring - less fert to deal with at seeding time .
Working the pea stubble saved our canola from freezing this past May . Also helps with faster more even germ and a much more uniform crop.
The first canola we tried before rains on pea stubble that was worked last fall looks to be ok - did 11.5 ac - delivered to elevator - 560 bus - net . Hopefully the rest is close to that.
Why would I bounce around and do yet another job when this will work far better and I can adjust fert on the go in areas that may or may not need it as we are tilling anyway?
We have spread before with those spreaders and it works fine - just

Worked pea stubble last fall plus burnt hrs stubble and worked in spring will be my highest yielding canola this year. Heavy wheat stubble just harrowed will be my poorest.
Putting feet down with Kelly harrow later this fall. Air package in middle.
Wet area guys have to look different at direct seeding. Make it black payed off huge.

That will work , but 90% of canola direct seeded with that kind of fertility on any stubble froze off here. Not very effective on the reseeded canola afterward

we use 120-140N -35-8-35 , all looks good , but sulphur gets spread as fines , 80#s N gets knifed in , in the fall . wish we could eliminate the floater pass , though. probably a little light on phos ? our canola always seems later than everyone else's

Case IH Spray a product like alpine g22 or Kugler 6-24-6 with herbicide 2 to 4 LT to boost your phish . Your fertility is very solid .
