    pre-harvest glyphosate on Canola

Has any one have experience with pre-harvest glyphosate on Canola in place of swathing?
We have over 1/2 our Canola Swathed and about 1/4 combined already but a lot of swaths blew from the big winds we have been getting.
The Canola that we have that is still standing has many different growth stages and we would have to swath it pretty low as it is not that tall. There would not be much stubble to hold the deaths in place.
We are looking for other options and are thinking of pre-harvest glyphosate.

    Deaths should be swaths

Don't really know anything about it, but I do know I don't seem to have any luck killing Liberty link canola on chem fallow with glyphosate. If that's what you have you may need a different product.

          Jag,

The new Heat Roundup mix that is registered shound fix up that well! Very happy with how it worked on peas. Make sure you talk to Canola buyers to be sure they are ok with it. I understand MRL work is done on Canola and it is OK for export.

Reglone works to but can give green seed issues if drys too fast in hot weather... which shouldn't be a problem now for a while.

Was swathing is the rain last night... very different swath construction when wet... smpoth and woven together and rolled really nice...vs dry. Also when greener side better wind resistance as better rolling can be done. E/W best direction in our area. Some N/S were airborne Wednesday here.

I straightcut mine ever year just let it ripen you have to have the right variety for that. the combine will get a good workout when you go to the greener spots and also watch the canola well when you have it in the bin

Can R'up and or heat be applied by air?
Planes spraying something in the area on canola.

I sprayed 3 Q's of RR with roundup and heat. Roundup worked great on the weeds, the heat did sfa. Rep said it wasn't far enough along to spray yet. I said if was any further I could have just waited 10 days and combined. I won't be using heat again, pre seed or pre harvest.

We had most of our Canola Swathed E/W and some swathed N/S and it all blew here as the wind come out of the South West.
One year we even swathed at an SW angle and the wind came out of the North and blew the swaths.
We won't be getting into the fields for a few days it is pretty muddy here right now. It is not quite ready for swathing but will be later this week.

I am thinking Roundup alone should work on CF canola. Not sure what to do yet but have a couple of days to think about it.

Sprayed HeatRR on bolting volunteer RRcanola we wanted residual canola weed control on highway Rite of way.

RR Canola Turned white for 2 days... then Canola proceeded to bloom... so we left it and harvested 25bu/ac on land that was left till harvest time. Agree it does little on RR Canola at any time except seedling stage. Kind of like a light frost.

BASF should call it frost instead of heat!

                      Jag,
Feel your pain. We have lost 15bu/ac straight cutting... and had NW/SE swaths rolled into 10' high piles that cost 10bu/ac loss. Need wind insurance...

No easy answers; ClearField does work better ... Liberty works good for many to put roundup on.

We put heat on canola at 80% change it was dead ripe and ready to go 5 days after spraying. Then the wind came

You need to use 20 gpa or more water.

                        Reglone would be another option...

What pissed me off was that it worked on the really late flowering plants and the really early stuff that was pretty much mature but it did nothing for the stuff that was about 60% and needed a push. I would have even been happy turning it to pepper but it did nothing. At 80% you're only a week away without a desiccant.

ado, heat works like reglone, just a bit slower. If its still actively growing and there is sufficient water in the plant it easily outgrows it and the plant continues growing.

Something to keep in mind when using heat or reglone.

Its a harvest aid, a plant that has already senesced is the only plant that can effectively be sprayed with heat or reglone.

Tweety, I'm aware of that. I've used enough reglone to know if it's too early it will burn and green up again. It was the initial burn that was absent.
