As the basis for this service, member companies of the Western Grain Elevator Association (WGEA), at their election, will provide price information (elevator bids) for five commodities at all country locations. Information includes daily spot and forward bid prices for red spring wheat, prairie spring wheat, durum, canola and peas.

“AWC is extremely pleased to launch PDQ, made possible by our collaboration with the major grain companies,” said Tom Steve, AWC General Manager. “This level of cooperation is encouraging and we look forward to improving the level of price transparency available for farmers and other industry stakeholders via PDQ.”

The PDQ service compiles pricing information on its website, www.pdqinfo.ca, into regional price averages across nine zones covering Western Canada. Additionally, the site provides futures market closing prices, average wheat grade and protein spreads, local weather and foreign exchange rates.

Future versions of PDQ will include customizable functionality and charting capabilities and AWC will endeavour to add other commodities. Additionally, current basis information will be linked to futures market prices. The site will not report final transaction prices, and will not replace the interaction between farmers and their local elevators or farm market advisors, but will provide easily accessible and reliable market trends and indicators.

“PDQ will not engage in market advisory or analytical services, but it is designed to become the industry standard for cash grain price information across Canada for use by farmers,” said Steve. “A good segment of the industry is represented.”

Wade Sobkowich, Executive Director of the Western Grain Elevator Association, adds “The members of WGEA compete for farmers’ grain, and have a long history of price transparency with their customers through daily e-mails, texts and online prices. In combination with existing purchasing discussions farmers currently have with their local elevators, PDQ is another way they can access more general market trend information.”

Not too sure how they plan to fund this site going forward. Hopefully not on government money. Their site is very similar to others. I think the only difference is that it gives pricing across all of western Canada instead of just one province, which has it's upsides and downsides for sure.

You still need to contact the actual grainco or buyer.

Most provide pricing up to the minute.

Viterra has a mobile site. PH sends texts twice a day.

Cargill occasionally. And the cwb is keeping people up to date.

Not sure what your site does.

If you added port pricing that might be helpful to seeing if farmers are getting such a good deal.

Get the graincos to put their port selling prices online.

Yes, port pricing might help indicate if farmers are being treated fairly, but would that ultimately affect your grain marketing decisions? Probably not.

Aafc has quit issuing price reports.

Vessel reports and what's moving off the ports and south would be a nice addition since you are supposedly getting graincos info.

They get ours for free not sure why farmers can't get a consolidated report from industry players as well.

we have a coffee shop in our town where a certain group mostly wine and bitch about grain prices and how they getting screwed by everybody,i sat down couple times and on purpose told them what i got for my wheat,the leader and his group were very quiet,never asked one question on how to get higher prices,after i left there leader continued the whining,hmmmm sound familar,some poeple rather bitch then improve.

It's a colossal waste of taxpayers money.

How about getting the graincos to use the durum exchange. No that's bitching.

How about port prices and forward sales info from the graincos. No that's bitching.

All relevant info in the states and mandatory in their market.

But maybe I am bitching for something that should have been implemented Aug 1 2012.
