It bothers me to hear the kids have to witness the frustration. Not that they shouldn't be out there and more than likely its a battle for which one gets to come along. But what bothers me more is some expect us to put on the brave happy face and pretend all is a bed of roses. We shouldn't fool ourselves or the next generation. Don't deny the reality!!!

Hang in there and hopefully conditions improve for you.

      Freewheat

You were so optimistic all year.

Sounded like you were on your way to getting a good crop while the rest of us droughted out.

      Keep at it.

      Maybe dual up the swather?

Please use the capital. It's a Brave happy face.

Business is tough,or everyone would want to do it. Farming has it's own challenges no doubt with weather foremost. But, when kids watch the parents deal with wet, dry, low prices, high prices, (cause there's lessons to learn there too), over regulation, bad and good neighbours, and especially "change", the lessons they learn from watching how the parents cope will shape their lives.

Freewheat's posts in the past leave no doubt his kids will be just fine. They'll turn out being the kind of people society needs more of. Society is filling up with spoiled, entitled, credit card maxed kids, who live in Mom and Dads basement until or if they can land something like a Manitoba Hydro full benefits parachute.

Because, if you make it so, the futures so bright you've gotta wear shades.

I get stressed too, wished I didn't but I do.

I always thought our swathers were pretty good mudders. Freewheat, perhaps you should look at upgrading the drive tires.

Dropping air pressure to about 12psi may help

You have a bumper crop. You have high crap insurance. The world was great a month ago. Now your stressed. Try having shitty crap insurance and early drought and then actually more rain and wetter fields than your area has. I ve driven through that area. People here would love to have your problem. When we stated our situation you were giddy in love with Harper and told us to be frugal no worries. So what's changed.

But take it from someone that has had that situation several times. Your swathing and spinning differnt speed so unless you have variable reel speed your pounding the piss out of that ripe canola and dropping the swath in between ruts that are going to dry hard of which you will have to carry your pick up high and shell out even more.

Get in the phone to a custom harvester. Many guys are straight combining with very good results. You will save more than double the cost of custom from lack of shelling not to mention a transmission or hydro on your swather. In addition since you haven t experienced flooding and ruts yiur fields will be screwed for next year.
If the custom route fails you have crap insurance
                      Wish we had your problem.
