    It's coming from somewhere.

Isn't some canola multiplied in other countries in the off season for production here.

I know I have gained many weeds since buying canola seed that were not common here before.

Instead of growing the seed out why not roll it out? The cleaners shouldn't crush, what about Devils Trumpet? Faster than growing a thousand seeds.

Cleavers are a conspicuous admix and can be easily distinguished. I am not sure about Devils Trumpit. I have never seen seed yet.

The name is "Devil's Trumpet", not "Devils Trumpit".

            Here is an interesting URL:

Don't even sniff the plant or you'll be affected...especially TOM4CWB.

2 to 5% cleavers? That came from the horses mouth? Give me a break. That one came from the other end of the horse. Thats just preposterous.
There's no way. FYI you are allowed 0% cleavers in canola. None !

bluefargoL FYI I had new land and bought canola seed from the old Alberta Wheat Pool many moons ago.
Guess what?...I got infested with cleavers from that one time purchase.
I was really pissed off, especially as I had new breaking and all. The inspectors are not infallible and once everyone HAS to buy certified or registered seed I'm sure there will be more surprises in store for western farmers especially with sourcing from anywhere in the world.

I hate it when the system doesn't do its job.
For the most part the system works.
But stories like yours are disturbing.
I would be very pissed off to say the least
I think things have improved since then. I hope so

Is there any way to get a perfectly clean seed lot? It sounds great in theory, but it's probably impossible. In my experiences, the canola seed companies go above and beyond the requirements of the CSGA. Saying that, I would be upset with weeds in my bag of seed.

Why couldn't Bayer throw a few seeds of the Devil's Cabbage in with the bags of canola seed. That would make swathing so much more relaxing. Ha.

Tin foil hat time... where did the posts go naming the variety this weed is associated with? Anybody else notice they are missing from this thread?

for 700 a bag that seed should have gone through a screenmachine, spirals, then a 24 carat gold colour sorter. Instead we get new weeds from South America.
