Concerning Lillian vs. Abbey. I've grown both side by side the last two years trying to see if there is much difference between them.
I have found Lillian always has at least 2 more rows of kernels in the head. It lodges much more readily, it has no Awns, and has 0.5% higher protein.
Both Abbey and Lillian fall over equally under heavy Sawfly pressure. They have roughly the same maturity, and they grow to the same height.
Abbey does not get as heavily damaged by hail when it is headed-out(the Awns protect the head)
As for yield I can only guess since the fields were hailed out both years, but when I harvested what was left there was more Abbey because of the afore mentioned Awns.
