Just wanted to comment that the changes the CWB is making to the select winter wheat program are positive. The contract program while working for the board was contrary to the wishes of producers. Producers are still looking for early movement of winter wheat not storing for delivery later in the year. The moving towards American winter wheat specs will help standardize the crop and in the end allow the board to sell a more consistent product into that competitive market place. Now the CWB needs to loosen the grip on KVD requirements so that winter wheat breeding can keep pace with other crops. I do not believe winter wheat poses any threat to high protein hard red Spring. We are in a new world and Canadian HRS wheat does not command the presence it once had.If that premium market is shrinking then the board has an obligation to allow producers other options to meet a changing market.
