In central Alberta the spring wheat and barley are germinating nicely. Too bad it hasn't been harvested yet.

SW Manitoba. Seeded my winter wheat during the first week of september into dust. Its starting to germinate but still very spotty emergence.
A more expereienced WW grower told me its sometimes best not to look at your crop too much in the fall or you'll be worried alot and still have a good crop next summer. I hope he's right.

        Jay-mo,

This year we have the same problem as you, no rain for a month. If the winter wheat does not germinate till spring... it is usually 2-3 weeks later.... if April has some good growing days!

Mine finally looks decent. Seeded on Aug 23.

Neighbors seeded a week later and shows a really big difference.

              Crusher,

Got a quarter of an inch of rain last night... the shallow fellas look like they are going to go now... and the deeper plants got moistened and look much happier today!

              God Bless Canada!

Winter seeded Canola can work... but it needs to be seeded just as the soil freezes... as we no longer can get the coating to retard germination!

Seed is VERY expensive (in case of failure)... and later seeded Canola... May 20 vs May 1 yeilded better, July is often too dry... need August to fill the pods!
