    Election Talk

Here's one election speech popping up from the past. Will the same guy choose very different positions when he makes a speech as the new Wascana Liberal candidate?

Here are some exerpts from Rod Flaman’s Policy Statement when he first ran as a CWB Director.

"I believe in a VOLUNTARY Canadian Wheat Board."

"I believe the principles of CHOICE AND ACCOUNTABILITY."

"Choice means their must be competition to the Canadian Wheat Board. This will make the CWB stronger and better able to meet the needs of producers. It will guarantee that the Board will be adaptable to market forces. Without competition, the CWB will rely on its’ own internal perceptions of service to the industry which are outdated and efficient. The CWB must welcome such challenges or it suffers the risk of stagnation and loss of confidence before producers."

"The current Code of Conduct which was signed by the Incumbent Directors is a legally binding contract which prevents those directors who signed it from being directly accountable to producers. I believe that as a producer elected Director my first responsibility is toward those producers who pt me in office and not to the dictates of Ottawa or the Minister in Charge of the Canadian Wheat Board."

"Value added wheat and barley products must be allowed unrestricted access to export markets and be granted no cost export licenses. This is a policy decision of the CWB Board of Directors and will be my first priority. No cost export licenses for producers will be my second priority."

    "I stand for change."

"Please cast your ballot for Rod Flaman for Canadaian Wheat Board Director"

    "Vote only for ProChoice Candidates!"

    Lest we forget.

"Without competition, the CWB will rely on its’ own internal perceptions of service..."

Hhmmm. That's quite a profound observation by Mr. Flaman, an apt one, and one that befalls all monopolistic institutions. I guess Mr. Flaman did not prepare himself adequately to resist the internal perceptions which he could clearly see before he got "inside".

Too bad - for him and for everyone else. It's really too bad for the CWB. By relying on this false perception, Mr. Flaman has helped the CWB deny themselves enough light to see the road ahead, and they will eventually suffer a fatal crash into another larger obstruction because they refuse to see it. It's only a matter of time.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST WITHIN THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AT THE CANADIAN WHEAT BOARD MUST END WITH A RESIGNATION

October 9, 2007 ~ Airdrie, AB: “Rod Flaman, Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) director for district 8 has yet to resign over the conflict of interest violation of the CWB's own code of ethics” notes Jeff Nielsen, President of the Western Barley Growers Association (WBGA).

Mr. Flaman has gained the nomination to be the Liberal candidate for Regina-Qu'Appelle. With that, Mr. Flaman cannot fulfill his responsibilities to those farmers in district 8, and the CWB, while working as a candidate for a possible fall federal election.

In a sworn affidavit presented to the federal court of appeal in July of this year, CWB Chief Operating Officer (COO) Ward Weisensel states "like any member of a corporate board of directors, all directors (of the CWB) owe their statutory duties of care and loyalty to the CWB alone".

This statement can also be found in the sworn affidavit of Robert Roehle, coordinator and member of the "Friends of the CWB". Mr. Roelhe is a former employee of the CWB and is fully versed in the CWB's code of ethics.

"Clearly COO Weisensel knows the CWB's code of ethics, yet the directors are failing to fulfill their fiduciary roles as corporate directors and follow them" states Nielsen.

It is the role of all corporate directors to work in the best interest of the company, failing to do so and by not resigning, that director should then be asked by the full board to step down. By not focusing his statutory duties of care and loyalty to the CWB alone, Mr. Flaman is in breach of the CWB's code of ethics".

"By honourably resigning from the CWB, Mr. Flaman will prove his commitment to the Liberal party, and be able to fully participate in the role he has chosen as a candidate" concludes Nielsen.

WBGA remains focused on bringing choice to barley farmers in western Canada for more information please visit our web site at www.wbga.org

Did Goodale and Machej start up a company or something, trading oil through Burma? Will it be pooled through the CWB?
